When is he going to be making his way over to our site?

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
Huh - the common wisdom is that you want 5.29s for 35s and 4.88s for 33s to stay in your stock range, assuming a manual trans. I used 5.29 for my 33s with the auto and it was fine - the 5.29s should spin the 33s just fine, but I'm worried that RPMs on the freeway will be higher than I like.
Chris, these wheels are the standard aluminum 3spoke Toyota wheels, painted black. They're wearing 255/85r16 KM2s, I won a BFG gift certificate in a raffle last year and used it to get these tires. These wheels and tires were on my '86 until it croaked.
Andrew, my new springs are due to arrive tomorrow afternoon, which means I won't be able to pick them up until Saturday morning, too late to bust out to your place and throw them on. How's your next Thursday evening?

I've read the the 4.88s are good for 33s with the auto trans, but we've also got different engines so that could make up the difference.

I'd buy that. The 5VZE has power than the 22RE so can handle a lower gearing for a given tire size.

That would be Jan. 31st, if I'm not mistaken...that should work! Everyone is of course invited, as well as your families. My 4 kids get bored of each other really quickly

I imagine Ian would love to come hang out. I'll have to leave Nicole behind though.
Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
We are going to have to schedule for another night. As of this morning, I am now scheduled for two other things that Thursday night. Are you working Saturday? Or, I could even do it Friday night...

Should we plan for Saturday, Feb. 2nd? Say, 10am? That would give us a lot more time. I can fire up the grills in the afternoon and we can cook whatever meat we want. Kind of a little club/family party? The high should be in the 30's! :lol!:

I will be up in Brigham City gathering parts all day. While your wrenching let me know of anything you need off the 86.

Saturday works!
You know what I need, Ty, is a 5speed shift knob. If you could keep your eye peeled for one in that boneyard, that'd be kickass.

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
I am headed out of town next weekend, Friday through Sunday (Feb. 1st-3rd). I won't be able to make it.
Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
I wasn't going to put my good alternator in until I felt like it, but I had a pulley start squalling at me over the past couple of days, and the screwdriver test says it's the alternator, so I guess I feel like it. I shoved the front of the truck back into the garage so I can just wrench cold instead of cold and wet, and got the old alternator out this morning. Hopefully the new one will go in tomorrow without too much wrestling.
140 amps, coming up!

So what's the plan for your leaf springs? Are we putting them on this weekend?

Assuming I have them, yes. There was a miscommunication between Kurt and OME, they shipped the wrong springs . The right ones are on the way, should be here tomorrow or Thursday.
Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
where are you guys gonna be when your doing wrenching on Saturday? I'm scheduled to work but if it's snowing I most likely wont be working. I would love to help out

Hey Andrew, what about taking the kids sledding when we're done?

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
Me and the boys will be up north at least part of the day. I will take their snow cloths with us. If I get done early enough I will text you and we can meet up.

Sweet! We don't have tubes or sleds, but I'll toss Ian's little plastic "snowboard" in the back of the truck.
Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
I have tubes and sleds so if I can make it I will bring them.

That would be awesome. We have that big hill in my neighborhood that is great for sledding.

I'm not going to make promises that I will be there. It really just depends on if I get all my crap done early enough.
