Kyle's 1985 4Runner
I bought my toy when i was still in high school as a shop Project car, and it has turned into an awesome project!
I refer to it as "Project Riggy" (kinda like miss piggy?!)
(one of the oldest pictures I have left, pre lift got lost with our old camera )
Things I have done:
4" leaf spring lift
4.88 gears
Possitrax in the rear
trail armor for the differentials
Sliders
33" KM2's
rebuilt engine(new clutch and resealed transmission while engine was out)
4.70 transfer case gearing, Dual stick
Painted the top
"custom" inner fender
Headers
Intake
Things I want to do:
Fabricate front and rear bumpers
fix my stupid rear window!
Wider stance (ifs axle rear and spacers in front?)
Cut out fenders or wide high clearance fenders
5.29 gearing with ARB lockers
35" tires
And the list will continue to grow as i do more and more :lol!:
Please let me know your thought on this, I would love to hear it!

Also, Kevin, the relay for the rear window, Which pins go to the mag coil, and which ones are making the actual connection?

Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
Another 1st gen! Honestly, 33's and 4.88's are going to be perfect for everything we wheel. "Upgrading" to 5.29's and 35's won't be significant enough to justify the cost. If it were me, I'd allocate those funds for a mechanical locker in the rear and a selectable locker up front. I have 37's and 5.29's and it sucks. Yes, it rocks on the trail with dual t-cases and 4.7's in the rear but street-ability is GONE. 35's are pushing it as well. Ideally, I'd go with a skinny 34" tire...MAX. Toyota's pushing those 12.5-13" wide tires sucks...literally...

Here's what Roger Brown has to say: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/RearWindow.shtml
And screencaps from my FSM:
Does that help at all?

Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
I need to get the FSM(Factory Service Manual?) apparently! This totally answers my question! So i definitely was thinking my defogger relay was for the rear window... Whoops! But now I can get to troubleshooting! The schematics i have been able to find have not been very helpful. But now that i know the little relay is for my defogger it makes me think i'm missing a couple switches...Kevin wrote:Does that help at all?

Bring me a thumb drive next time we wheel, I'll load it up for ya.Krawler_Bowler wrote:I need to get the FSM(Factory Service Manual?) apparently!Kevin wrote:Does that help at all?
What switches are you missing?
Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
Kevin, I have a rear window switch and a cargo light switch. So I'm missing the rear wiper switch, and the defogger switch. Not sure if there are any more switches.

Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
I have window and wiper switches in the center console, and deck lamp and rear defrost switches to the left of the steering column. There's slots for two more switches right above the radio that are left blank in the manual trucks.
Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
So back to the rear window... Where is the circuit breaker located at? One of the last things that I have to check.

Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
Does ANYTHING about your tailgate work? If I'm reading that schematic right (no guarantee there), power to the window, washer pump, and rear wiper all go through that circuit breaker. If any of those work from any switch, then your circuit breaker should be good.
If not, it'll probably be in the fuse box under the hood, but I don't know that for sure.

Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
Not sure what all works... When I got it, it only had a defective window switch in it.
Also new development for me. I had to add a new red part on this week. A hood! So apparently when your latch fails and you are getting on the freeway your hood pops up and bends and wraps the windshield. Had to replace the hood but minimal damage everywhere else

Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
Hey Guys! I'm back, I had to move back with my parents while I finished school. My commute was an hour and a half one way riding the Trax, FrontRunner, and busses. To top that off I went skiing one day and crashed and tore a ligament in my thumb.
The doctors put me in a cast for too long and I had a club arm and it was hard to drive. I finally graduated from UVU with my associates degree in Diesel Mechanics.
Luckily by this time my thumb was finally better and I was able to go find a job. I am now working at Rush Truck Centers as a service technician. :affraid:
While I am working here I have had a lot of experiences which include building a double decker racecar that my buddies race at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
I finally fixed my rear window, bypassed the stock harness.
Had my driveline let go on me while I was driving about 70 on the highway.
And I bought a commuter car now so I can finally get some work done on Riggy.

Re: Kyle's 1985 4Runner
Anyone know how to tune, or know of a place that tunes 22re's? I had trouble passing emissions last year and I don't think it will this year. :fighting:
side note: anyone have some tall jack stands? Need to put in some axle degree shims so I need to get it tall enough to separate spring from axle.
