Looking to get tires for the F-150.  My wife's car needs new ones, so it only makes sense to put my tires on it and get me new ones right?!   I want something aggressive, but not overly aggressive.  here are the 4 i like that come in the size I want (295/70r18) 34/11.5r18

Nitto Ridge Grappler

I think the STT PRO is too much.

I love the Ridge Grappler, but the cooper S/T Maxx is $60 cheaper per tire. I love the Grabber X3's aggressive side wall, but is it too much?

Not overly aggressive? Those all seem overly aggressive to me. Those ST max seem the best suited out of the bunch, but I imagine those things will howl with the gap on those side lugs. Fords are pretty quiet now days but I'll tell you I can't even hear the stereo over my duracraps on my expedition. Not everyones favorite but I'm big fan of the good ole' BFG AT, quiet, good mileage, good traction.  I'd also look at the TOYO open country AT, be more than enough for what you need and will be a lot quieter than all those and should have that big of an impact on your mileage. I've run the Yokohama geolanders in various forms in the past and been happy with them.

To each his own on tires, but to me those all look very loud and mileage robbing and overkill

I hate bfg a/t. Everyone and their dogs have them! The ridge grappler is not as aggressive as it looks, and I'm told not that loud. I like the Cooper as well. I want either a more aggressive a/t or a less aggressive m/t. That's what I like about the ridge grappler, but the $320 price tag gets me a little.

I've been liking the 255/80r17 ST Maxx on my F150 a lot, they've hooked up everywhere, aren't too loud or rough on the freeway, and have sidewalls like a $10 hooker's foot calluses, tough AF.  The Grabber X3s are legit, Expedition Overland runs them and they don't change many flats.  They're also the least expensive name-brand 35X12.5r17 AT out there, and they have a good chance of being my next tire on the F150, if I keep it that long.  BFG KO2s are also 112% legit and I don't care who all else runs them, if I could afford the 34X10r17s they'd be on my truck right now.

I didn't hate the Duratracs but I'm never paying full price for a set again, that's for sure.  They're easily the most overrated tire out there.  And Nittos are mall crawler crap and will never touch my truck.  But we all know how often Ty is going to take that truck offroad so maybe the Nittos are right up his alley.  Very Happy

I'm leaning to the grabber over the nitto, I like the aggressive, and roughly $30 per tire cheaper. The 295/70r18 is about 34.5x12.

Yes you are right. We all know how often I will take this truck off road!! It's definitely a pavement queen. When I get my focus registered again, the truck may only see 1000 miles a month. If that! But those miles will be grand. Pulling a 32' TT to Bear Lake on Thursday!

We've had the Cooper ST Maxx (275/70r18) on our F150 for awhile. Been happy with them.

To me BFG A/Ts are the Doc Martin of tires. Super uncomfortable, but that's what the popular kids wear!! No doubt they're a great tire, but I won't run them!

Really I think it will come down to the grabbers and the Coopers. I love the look of the Nitto, but not the price. I really need to see them side by side in person.

It's about time to pull the trigger.

Right now I'm looking at the

Cooper S/T Maxx

Cooper A/T3 XLT

Toyo at2 extreme.

Leaning toward the AT3 XLT because of price,it's not as aggressive, but wan't some input.

The AT3 will probably be the next tire I put on the Wiferunner. I should have done it last go round.

Discount Tire sells a Cooper ATP that looks a little more exciting than the AT3 and last time I checked they were a hair cheaper.

I put the Cooper Adventurer A/T (exclusive to Pep Boys) on my truck a few months back - they have been great so far.  I don't like Pep Boys, but the "Buy 3 tires get the 4th free" was by far the best deal I found.

I think this is the route I'm going to go. It's new this year, and everything I've read people love it. Cooper AT3 XLT.

Next question SIZE!! 295/70r18 or 285/75r18? 295= 34.25x12. 285= 34.8x11.2

I ran Nitto Trail Grapplers in 295/70R18 on my lifted Tundra. They were HEAVY tires and threw my speedometer way off. Unfortunately, Toyota depends on the speedometer to determine when the transmission should shift, so that went to hell as well (I literally drove around in tow/haul mode to "fix" it). Finally I found a speedometer calibrator, which is permanently mounted behind the dash...everything worked like factory again once that was in place. Can you fit that size without a lift/leveling kit? My days of oversized tires are done - they negatively affect drivability too much.

I have a 2.5" level kit already. They both should fit! I haven't hit that stage in my life where I don't want oversized tires! I'm still a redneck at heart!

I've got 275/70r18 (33.2") with leveling kit on my F-150. I like the size. I thought about stepping up to the 295, but after learning of Andrew's experience I decided to stick with the 275s.

FWIW, no first hand experience myself. My dad test drove a newer 2015 (I think)F150 with 35's, the transmission hated it and actually went into limp mode twice on test drive because of it. He was told no programmer was currently available to fix the issue. Like I said not first hand knowledge of mine but just something to possibly research first
