Well, if that's the case, then count me in! Although...doesn't look like I have a free Saturday until June 14th... That doesn't help you for RR next weekend.

Yeah I understand not wanting to fork over $700 for the harness.
What's left on the list to get finished?

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
I'm already missing RR, I can't leave Nicole with Eli where's he's at. He's fighting low blood sugar and jaundice and it's making him a cranky handful. I'm going to legally change his name from Eli to The Great Fussiness.
My list looks a lot like it did three weeks ago . Wiring, finish the exhaust, check everything for torque, get the driveshafts hooked up, finish the intake brace, put the dual battery setup together, etc. I'm out there right now messing with my new seat overs, because that's easy and maybe seeing the interior put back together will get me in the mood to finish the rest.

Sorry to hear that man. We have had (and when I say we I mean Britt) a rough week with Tenley. She has decided this week that she doesn't want to sleep EVER!!!

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
Mike came over on Sunday and we messed around a little more - still no power to the injectors and no spark with the new harness, so he's coming back Friday night with a fancy scopey computery thing and we'll see what wires are putting out what.
Burgers are on me if anybody wants to stop by and turn wrenches.

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
Mike came over last night with his fancy computer stuff, and we ate some good burgers and hooked the truck up like an invalid on life support and ran some tests. Ended up getting the best data by just pulling the engine codes though - p0110 and p0115. One of those is a coolant temp malfunction, the other is something to do with the intake, either MAF or intake air temp signal. Now we're getting somewhere!

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
The MAF code went away. The coolant temp sensor is just a loose plug. The only code left is for the distributor - Mike tested it out and it's all shorted inside. Got a new one on the way to the tune of $200, and then maybe this silly truck will start.
I knew intellectually that it's a good idea to have a complete donor, but now I know from experience. I won't ever attempt another motor swap without a complete donor, that I can hear run before I pull the motor.

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
New distributor is in. Truck isn't throwing any more engine codes. Truck also still won't start. I'm starting to think this project is cursed.

Do you have spark? Fuel? Air? There is got to be something simple your over looking.

Also have you tryed a compression test to make sure the motor is good?

Gonna find out in the morning, go back to square one. Need to do some research tonight and make sure I stabbed the distributor right, too. I assume it's TDC and 12:00, but I'll make sure.
I have not run a compression test yet, and that's lurking in the back of my mind.

I'm buying Ty's rear axle and elocker so he can convert his rear to D44 and have matching gear ratios. I'm only doing this because I'm a very good friend, of course.
The '96 rear is several inches wider, so the smart guys on RME are telling me how I'm going to get to 60" WMS in front.

Re: Kevin's 1985 4Runner
An update - didn't have spark, because the igniter in the distributor was burnt. The distributor was burnt because the computer killed it. The next computer didn't work either, still no spark. Be damned if I'll mail-order a third $100 ECU to see it dead too, so I'm taking this opportunity to get jiggy with it.
Megasquirt, baby. Going to scavenge connectors off the old burnt harness to make up a custom one, and run it to a Megasquirt. I think I can get by with the narrowband O2, at least to get it running, I'll worry about a wideband later because those things aren't cheap. I believe I'll also need a MAP sensor instead of the MAF, which I will probably buy new from DIYAutotune just to take any guesswork out of the equation. Not sure what else I'll need that I don't already have, I haven't even RTFM yet.
Going this route makes it a near certainly that a shiny snail will attack my engine bay at some point next year, because f*$& stock. And really, who was I kidding with that anyway? I borrowed a dolly from Ric on RME and I'm hauling the Bastard down to Mike's garage this morning, where it'll be a little more convenient to get us both in the same place at the same time and get this thing hammered out.

Just a hair past the recommended tow rating:
That was scary. Apparently it's time to do my wife's brakes!

A cute little metal fan that forces air into the intake and likes to whine as much as a small child.Andrew wrote:Am I the only one not getting this "Shiny Snail" reference????
