Swasey peak area. There's an old abandoned homestead in the mountain range down there, I just can't remember the name right off the top of my head.

It's a climbing website but has a little info. You can look up about "jack Watson" he is the homesteader that had a ranch called ibex.

That's the Soapstone Basin gate. There's some dirt roads before that point, I've never been on them though.

Brady and I are stuck with two options we came up with. Camping at soapstone and hoping that there isn't a ton of snow on the road so they are drive able. Or two go on PET out to Simpson springs area with no trees. Thoughts?

All the campgrounds up Mirror Lake are closed. You'd have to drive up a road to find a spot, and hope there wasn't too much snow.
I wont be camping, but wherever you guys go I'll come meet you in the morning.

Should we just head out west towards PET so we can get some gun time in?

I don't have much ammo for my 9mm, but I'll bring my AR. Bonus: depending on when head for home on Saturday we can hit the gun show on the way back!

I should probably pick up a box or two of .40 and run the pistol I picked up last night.

Tentatively should we plan on camping somewhere around Simpson springs or where would it be easy to meet up for you Kevin?

No sense driving all the way out to Simpson Springs just to shoot. I vote for Little Moab.
Re: Newfoundland Mountains November 21st and 22nd
If we head that far south then I might be tempted to stop in Orem and grab my rifles to play with. I was thinking PET to just get away from people and explore out there.

Can we shoot out by Little Moab? If we head there I may bring the runner in tow.

BLM land. Lots of shooting.
If we go out to Simpson Springs, I'm going to want to explore down in the Sheeprocks. I saw a road out that way I wanna check out. What time do you have to be back up north, Brad?
Re: Newfoundland Mountains November 21st and 22nd
Right around 1600 Saturday. So depending on how early you meet us it shouldn't be too big of a problem.

Be careful when shooting out there. There is a "temporary" ban on shooting in areas West of Utah Lake. Make sure you study the maps:
http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/salt_lake/recreation/target_shooting.html
I do shoot down there quite a bit, but as far South as Little Moab. What you'll notice on the map, is that the western shooting boundary follows the power lines. I make sure I am West of the power lines and then I know I am safe...and I've never had a problem.

Sounds like Brady and I are going to be camping in the area of five mile. If anybody is going to come tag along or meet up, let us know.

So what's the plan tomorrow? Are you guys going to wheel Snakes, or head out the PET?
Re: Newfoundland Mountains November 21st and 22nd
Brady is only going to be in his truck so some exploration is in order. That and shooting things.

I'm highly in favor of exploration and shooting things. Where should we hook up Saturday morning?
