Re: Club Runs discussion thread
So hey Ty - what's up 3rd Quarter? Do you have a trip cooking or do we need to find somebody else to cover that quarter? I seem to remember discussion of the TCRR and City of Rocks...
Re: Club Runs discussion thread
I would still like to do tccr. I don't know if it will include city of rocks or not. Just need to see when I can go.

Re: Club Runs discussion thread
I'm taking on planning for the 4th quarter trip from Ty since he's buried by real life. We talked about a couple options over the campfire, Brady requested a full-size friendly trip since his 4Runner will be down for the winter, so here's a couple options that have been on my list:
TCRR to Wendover. We could do this in a day, we could do it in two-three days if we spent time screwing around the Sawtooth and Raft mountains and maybe ventured up to the City of Rocks. I know this was what Ty had planned and he really wants to do this, so we should probably save it for later.
Wendover to St George. This is TRD270s idea, using DAAs GPS track to recreate his earlier trip. This trip will be at least three long days, probably more like four if we don't want to kill ourselves.
The Newfies? We thought about this last winter and didn't do it, we could do it now.
Hite to Green River via the Maze. Two nights on the trail, unless we detour to the Dollhouse. Mostly easy roads, but the Flint Trail switchbacks could require some fancy piloting from the full size guys. The road into the Dollhouse is said to have some rough sections, but stock trucks do it all the time.
Cathedral Valley/Capital Reef/Escalante area. The Burr Trail, the Notom-Bullfrog Road, and the Cathedral Valley road are all graded dirt and full size friendly. I haven't been on Wolverine or Little Death Valley off of Burr Trail, they're supposed to be mellow. I haven't been on the Notom-Bullfrog road south of the Burr Trail, I assume it's easy stuff too. I don't know anything about routes farther down in Escalante, but I could find out.
The Swell - I've been looking at getting down into the mining area around Tomsich Butte and the Lucky Strike. We could get a lot of dirt miles in if we started at the north of the Swell and came down Eagle Canyon.
I'm open to other ideas? Snow is likely to have the mountains closed but literally anything south or west is open. We don't have to stay in the state, we could venture into Nevada, we could do Death Valley, we could do play along the Arizona Strip, lots of options.

Re: Club Runs discussion thread
Okay, so here's my plan, which can be modified if the timing doesn't work or you all think it sucks or whatever - this is basically a repeat of a trip I took last February with a couple additions, so I'm familiar with most of the roads we'd drive.
We take off as early as everyone can on a Friday (early afternoon would be best) and beeline for Boulder, Utah, about a 4.5 hour drive from SLC. We find camp at one of the campgrounds just outside Boulder, and then hit the Burr Trail bright and early. Most of the Burr Trail is paved, but the Wolverine Loop is not, nice and dirty and it should be some fantastic scenery with very little risk of needing 4WD unless the weather is nasty. The Wolverine Loop brings us back to the Burr Trail, we continue on towards the Notom-Bullfrog road, where we'll find camp Saturday night (we can drive Upper Muley Twist and hike the Strike Valley overlook if we have time). We'll hit the road early Sunday and follow the Notom-Bullfrog Road north back towards Fruita, and then into Cathedral Valley. We'll start at the Fremont and drive the entire loop, see lots of cool stuff. Depending on how long that takes, we can take the loop back to the highway and head for home through Hanksville or Torrey, depending, and if we have time we can exit the loop early at Factory Road and pop out behind Goblin Valley which should also be a great drive, probably only use 4WD at the water crossings. On the other hand, if we run out of time, immediately after Cathedral Valley we can bolt north on Last Chance Loop and pop out on I70 and cut an hour or so off the drive home.
Saturday would look something like this: https://goo.gl/maps/8qeRsR9XNr92, Sunday would look like this if we didn't take Last Chance Loop or Factory Road: https://goo.gl/maps/MMBKJwKi6bt
How's that look?

Re: Club Runs discussion thread
Great Area! 2 weeks ago I did the exact same thing or pretty close to it at least just in reverse! we started on dirt just before forsyth reservoir on highway 72 and went over the mountains near geyser peak. we spent friday night at the top of cathedral valley. Woke up saturday and hit the dirt all the way through the valley stopping at the temple of the sun and moon. Very scenic, very easy driving. we popped out on the pavement just east of fruita, picked some apples in the orchards and then from there headed back to the notom-bullfrog road and took that all the way to bullfrog. stayed and played around in bullfrog saturday and came back up the bullfrog road and cut off at the burr trail and came home through bolder. The notom-bullfrog road is a very good dirt/some lesser quality pavement. But I was making it a high-speed road and my tires may or may not have been off the ground on multiple occasions.
The only dirt that a honda civic couldn't do on that trip was a few washes you cross in cathedral valley, the views are incredible along that whole route.

Dates are easy. Do we like what I worked out above, or do you guys want to go somewhere else? Is the trip too long? Too short? Too far away? Too easy?
Re: Club Runs discussion thread
I'm not going to chime in to much, because my vacation is a bit low. so I'm questionable to attend at best.

I kinda figured that's where everybody was at. To be honest, I'm a little questionable myself.

I like the 21st too. Allow me to secure permission from She Who Holds The Checkbook.
Re: Club Runs discussion thread
Ok, I'm locked into the weekend of the 21st. Let's talk departure time - I'd like to leave Salt Lake no later than 3pm Friday afternoon, and earlier if possible, because we're going to play finding camp by ear and the more time for that the better. The other option is leaving wicked early Saturday morning, like 6am. Which works better for the rest of you?

My wife's birthday is the 22nd... so maybe I can convince her that this trip could count as part of her 'birthday present'. It's not out of the realm of possibility though

My wife is 7 months prego so she is a no-go - but planning on taking two my boys
Re: Club Runs discussion thread
Oh, I get it. The birthday present isn't her going on a trip, it's the rest of you going on a trip. Very slick.
