Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
I'll be wrenching tonight. Start at 5:30 PM go 'till 11 PM. We'll be swapping the front suspension over from my tacoma. We may pull the rear diff and swap that as well. Even if you're not mechanically inclined, feel free to swing by and hand us tools.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
I don't think I'll be able to make it down to the wrenching party tonight...
Anyone willing to lend me their driveway and time to help out with swapping my t-case? Living in an apartment limits my space to work on my truck. I can get pizza and drinks for whoever shows up.
Kevin, if I end up doing it on a weekend your off it'll be on your driveway if you don't mind.

If you work out a day where I can be home, you're welcome to use my driveway.

In fact, if you've got all the stuff you need, you're welcome to swing by and take care of it during the wrenching party tonight. I'm sure there will be a few extra people who can lend a hand.

My driveway/garage is always open (figuratively speaking ). Since it's getting cold, you'll also enjoy the large propane heater I have (the ones contractors use to dry out drywall...).

Andrew I like the way that sounds!!
Steve: Not prepared to do it tonight. Would've been great with all the help you'll have hanging out though.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
Brady, my driveway is always yours, and you know I'll lend a hand. I'm free the weekend after this, and it shouldn't be too cold by then yet.
Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
My drive is open as well any weekend but this one. I'll be up Pheasant hunting in Brigham City.

In fact give me enough notice and we could go up to Brigham City and use my dads shop. All the tools you need and a LIFT. That lift makes thing so much nicer. Changed my clutch in 2.5 hours on that thing.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
Brady, it's supposed to snow next weekend. I can throw a tarp up if I have to, but my driveway isn't going to be an ideal place for your tcase swap.
Sounds like what we need to do is see if Ty can get us a day up at his Dad's shop. You've got a transfer case to change, I've got a rear main seal to fix, both of those will be about 10 times easier on a lift...

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
Good point, having the lift would be awesome, but Brigham City is a bit of a drive for everyone. I'll see if I can pick up the case and other required parts this week. Don't we have to see if Ty is available to loan us the shop?

Yes. Plus I have to have a license plate before I'm driving my junk that far.
Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
I don't know if this week will work. I was up there all day today and I need to make sure the lift is available.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
I'll be wrenching tonight. If anyone's bored and looking for something to do, feel free to swing by.
Plans:
swap the rear 3rd member with my tacoa (4.88s baby!), and start removing the tacoma's front suspension. If time permits, press out the manual hub from the knuckle in preparation for the swap on the runner (most likely going to happen on Thursday night).

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
Wrenching party tonight!
The goal is to swap both front diffs. With my newfound knowledge about the compatibility of the ADD and manual hub diffs, I won't be doing the manual hub conversion. I don't mind the ADD. The increased MPG and less parts to break on the manual hubs would be nice, but the cost and hassle of the manual hub swap isn't worth it to me.
Post up if you're interested in swinging by. Here's the plan:
5:30: remove front skid, axle shafts, diff from tacoma
6:30: remove front skid, shafts, and diff from 4runner
7:30: swap diffs
8:00: install axle shafts
9:00 button her all up and take it for a test ride
I'm happy to get pizza and drinks for anyone who comes, I'll just need advanced notice that you're coming. Even if nobody else shows up, I'll still be trying to get this all done tonight. My garage is nice and bright now, so we should be able to work without having to use flashlights.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
You have an annoying habit of planning these on nights that I'm working. I'd be there if I could.
Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
I am available next Monday, if you want to hold another party then. I can bring the heat

So what's your plan now? Are you wrenching tonight? I'm available to give you hand pulling out that front third after work.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
you're a good man Andrew.
My plan is to take a half-day at work and go home around noon. I'll take an hour or two nap then go back at it. I'm still 3-4 hours from having both trucks back together, so if you have time that would be great, but don't feel obligated.
