I just hate wrenching and I want the truck driving ASAP. I know the guy selling it, I don't think it's going anywhere.

Hey Brady, thanks for the help this weekend. And thanks especially for picking me over Kevin.
Kev, how's it going? I swear I'm going to finish my rig one day and come help you out.

Dropped my old head off this morning to get checked out, and I'm headed out to start pulling the bad one as soon as I finish eating breakfast and wasting time on the internet. I hope it shouldn't take more than a couple hours over a few days, but I won't be done by this weekend.
You can atone for stealing my friends by helping me throw on my new springs and 4.7 transfer case, though.

When are you throwing on the new springs and 4.7?

x2. Do you already have the 4.7s installed, or do you need to install them?

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
I've installed 4.7 gears before so I can help there. You'll definitely need a press to get the bearings off and you'll need something to grind down the inside of the t-case a bit to clear the new (larger) gears. It's a pretty tight fit so it'll need to be something "dremel" size. Trail Gear has AWESOME instructions on their site so print those off as well.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
I've got a press if you'd like to swing by and press that gear off the shaft. In fact, I was doing so many 4.7s that I just decided to buy a press, and I end up using the press all the time.

When the motor is fixed or when I hit a roadblock. Probably at some point this coming weekend.
I don't have to install them to a case, they're already in one. I just need to swap cases. The bigger job is going to be wrestling the old springs off the front - I've been hitting them with PB almost daily, hopefully they'll come free without too much hassle.
Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
front springs should be way easier than rear springs. Keep us posted.
I think I'm going to start tubbing my fenders in the next day or two...

Not quite. Had to push that back with Christmas and all. Should be ready in a month or so, hopefully.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
Wrenching party @ my house, this Saturday (2 Feb), 10am. We will be putting Kevin's springs on. Everyone and their mother...I mean family... are invited. If you do not have my address, send me a PM and I'll get it to you. After a few hours of wrenching, we'll fire up the BBQ and throw some brats on that I have in the freezer. Once the springs are done, we'll take the kids to the amphitheater in my neighborhood and let them slide for a bit. Bring warm clothes if you want to join us for that. No idea how long we'll go but we should be done by early afternoon.

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
Andrew, I'm thinking I'll schlep along some jackstands, an extra 26mm socket, what else would be helpful?
Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
The biggest thing we need is a way to lift the entire rear and then the entire front off the ground so we can be changing both springs at the same time. My jack stands are just too small. So taller jack stands, or anything of that sort would be great. I am also grabbing a larger capacity air compressor tonight since mine is too small to effectively run air tools for as long as we'll need them.
I should have pretty much everything else...

Re: Rotating Wrenching-day thread
Unless we hit a snag, it won't take more than a couple hours, three at the outside.
Andrew, I think we'll be over about 1030 or so if that's ok. The front shocks might need some persuasion to come off, you've got an angle grinder yah?
