1/2 say they're a must and you can't drive your rig w/o them. 1/2 don't see the necessity.

I've driven my truck for 3 years with the lift on and no diff drop. Sure I've torn up my inner cv boots, but the cv axles have never given me a problem.

I'm fine driving it without a diff drop, I just figured while I'm under the truck I might as well throw one on just to try and be a little bit nicer to my CV's

I'm planning on 3" up front and 3.5-4" rear.

Nope just rear. That's why I'm not horribly worried about snapping a CV too often.

I will take any and all help. I ordered my LBJ stuff and new steering rack boots from camelback and I'm just going to get Napa tie rods since oem inners are super over priced.

What is their hoorah about?
Installing a diff drop changes the angle the diff sits at.  There's a fairly persuasive argument that this screws up the oiling and leads to early ring and pinion death.

Hmmmm I never would have thought about that. Very interesting. Saves me money not putting one on.... scratch

I ran mine with and without the did drop. I tore boots both ways. I would suggest running without and if down the road you find it and want to add it. It's almost as easy as the rear end!

I don't think you need it.  It doesn't really make it any less likely that you'll bust a CV because there's a whole bunch more factors in that.  The diff drop makes it less likely that you'll blow a boot, but you can accomplish the same thing with better boots from CVJ, the boot stretch mod, or (my favorite) installing manual hubs from a Tacoma so the CVs aren't spinning all the time.

I've looked into doing manual hubs and I would really love to, it just seems like a pain dealing with the ABS system since the spindles are different and have to have parts pressed into the other spindle.

So my parts from Camelback are supposed to be here tomorrow and then I just have to make a run to NAPA for tie rods and I'm ready to go. Anybody think that this Friday/Saturday would work for them to help rip my truck apart and put it back together better?

I could probably come up Friday.  I need to spend Saturday in my own driveway though.

Slayer?  I hope they're paying well.  Assuming my wife doesn't have anything on the plate, I'm free all day Friday.

As long as my parts all get here then I would love to get it lifted. If not then my next weekend off will be when Ty wants to go play at snakes. Unless anyone would want to help on a weekday

They claim it will be here tomorrow and then it's just a quick trip to napa to get the tie rod ends
