Brady, Chris, and I ran up Rattlesnake and then cruised around the fire roads above Wayne's World a bit. The snow was well packed and there was surprisingly good traction. No carnage, although the strap did get a little action here and there. The fog burned off just as we arrived and it was warm and mild all day. Nicole's '99 was a beast, the KM2s and locker kept it right where I wanted it all day and it crawls well. Looking forward to getting the front coils and shocks in to correct the rubbing.

Very handy in the slick stuff, being able to turn it off when I didn't want it was nice. I was just going to put another automatic in the back of the '85, but now I'm seriously considering saving up for an ARB or elocker there.

You should have come, Steve - it wasn't anything epic, but it was great to get out of the inversion for an afternoon and see some blue sky.

I wish I could have made it too. Our close friend passed away on Monday and the funeral was today. Besides, I would have uglied up the pics with my non 4runner.

It was a good, short trip. The snow adds a new challenge. Like Kevin said it was great to get into some clean air and open spaces! I felt like an outsider with my silver runner and non-elocker axle...

5 Mile Pass - Photos
Here are some of the photos I took from yesterday. I tried to add a line of HTML to this post but i think that function is turned off and we have BBCode. I don't know whats the best way to embedded the photos, so if guys have any tricks let me know.
I had a blast on the run yesterday, thanks for letting me tag along.
I did take several short videos. I will upload them a little later.
The link above should take you to a slideshow of 25 photos from my flickr account, but figured you would want one or two directly in this post.

Wow, Chris - those are fantastic!

I'm not a fan of Flickr, I think it's easier to imbed pics when you host on Photobucket. What HTML feature were you looking for, I can see about enabling it.

I can create a photobucket account if it has a BBcode for a slideshow for a photo album. With my flickr account i can just click a 'share slideshow' button and it will give me a HTML code to post into a thread.
All it does is embeds a slideshow directly into the link that won't transfer you to another website to video it; it will play directly in the thread. That way I don't have to post a hyperlink to the slideshow like I did in the previous post.
I will do a little research and see if photobucket has the same option but in BBcode. I know there are some HTML to BBcode converters out there but i tried that already and had no luck.

this one was my personal favorite:

Nicole liked that one too. Smile

I looked around photobucket - it's got an imbedded slideshow function too, but it looks like it also uses html and not vB code. I'll see if there's a way to make it work.

edit - try [code] brackets?

Here is the un-processed RAW Image, it's obviously not the original .NEF (or .RAW for Canon) because you are viewing it as a .jpeg.

DSC_0116 by chrishuntsman, on Flickr

Here is the image with only levels adjusted, high pass, and color balance. (This is my typical recipe for about 90% of my images)

and one of the HDRs, which uses three exposures to create this image. You can see the added detail in the dark areas of the driver's front tire. This detail won't be possible on a signal exposure.

I did about 7 HDRs on the trip, the majority of the images are just processed Camera RAW images. I wasn't able to pull out my tripod to take any decent HDRs.

we need to get Chris a lot of things. I would start with those KM2's and rock sliders. There's a reason I have more photos of Kevin's rig, it's more photogenic! I had to show my wife what I want my runner to look like one day.
BTW - I would take a new front or rear bumper any day.

KM2s are my favorite tire I've had on any rig, but they aren't cheap - I have a set for each of our 4Runners, but I won one set in a contest and the others came with the truck. I would have a hard time justifying the cost to my wife if I had to buy a set new. Smile

I am hoping I can swing some kind of deal with that new Tire store going up in Lehi (off timpanogos highway) seeing how we designed his store and he is planning on doing 11 more in Utah.
Congrats on winning those in a contest, that's pretty awesome. Last time I won something, I got stuck with an Obama chia-pet thing.

that shop is a block from my house. I'm curious to see what it'll be like.

In my opinion, good tires are probably the most important mod you can make to your rig. They're the essential part that connects your rig to the ground.

If your wife doesn't want to justify the cost, try the safety angle: whether that means safer on the street, on sketchy trails with cliffs on the side, or the safety of not being stranded in the middle of nowhere with a blown sidewall. It's worth a shot. Smile

So I was looking through the photos and noticed that Kevin's rig has a front mud-flap that matches the back one (it curves to match the tire).

I really liked that, so was thinking that I must have taken those off when I removed my running boards. I went through my photos from when I got my runner and noticed that my front mud flap rolls into the running boards.
