sixstringsteve wrote:Another cool thin about the OMEs: They us the same shock between the mediums and the heavies. The only difference is the coil which is removable. In other words, you can run the medium setup for a year or two until you get a winch. once you get a winch, for $150 you can buy the stiffer springs and swap them out for the old ones. And usually you can sell used springs for around $100. That way you don't have to get a new bumper.

or you could save $150 and just get the bumper and the heavies at the same time. Wink

Yup, found a thread talking about the OME lift and general consensus is GET IT!!! Smile

Also, they described the different options available. Here's a quick summary:

614 = medium duty for use with the 5.7 and no wieght in the front
612 = light duty for use with the 4.6 and no wieght in the front
613 = heavy duty for use with the 5.7 and at least 200 lbs in the front addtional weight

The plan is to get the full lift (incl. rear springs) and, for now, get the 614 coils. I can always upgrade to the 613 when bumper/winch time comes. The only difference in these springs is length. Each one is ~3/8" longer to accommodate for more weight - spring rate is the exact same (as well as the other components as you pointed out).

Good call. It's a little sketchy installing the springs on the strut. Kurt has a cool tool that makes it less sketchy. I have a press if you can't work it out with Kurt to install yours. I recommend buying from Kurt. He won't have them in stock, but they'll be a week or less away. He's a good guy.

I got the new OME coil spring and strut on the driver's side done tonight - needed to work off all that delicious turkey! Even with multiple spring compressors, it's still taking a LONG, PAINFUL time to get these springs swapped out...they are definitely Heavy Duty!! Initial measurements show my floor to fender height went from 36" to 40". Even though it says 2.5" lift, everyone reports more like 3.5" after settling.

Passenger's side is pulled apart - debating whether I fight spring compressors again or drop it off to a local shop here and just pay someone to do it. Then, I'll put on the diff drop kit and check the alignment. Should be all good after that.

Well, my father-in-law convinced me to keep at it. Now that we had a good system, things went much smoother. I was able to put the new spring on the strut, install it on the passenger's side, realize that I had left out a washer on the driver's side strut, remove that, loosen the springs, add the washer, re-compress the springs, put it back in the truck, all before I would have returned from having a shop put the 1 spring together. Shocked

Lift is on, diff drop kit on, alignment WAY off Smile

Pics soon...

I was eyeballing a Tundra in a parking lot today. I think I want one.

I think I can't afford one, but I think I want one.

Thanks Steve. I was actually in Vegas putting on this lift. The drive home was nice - I couldn't really tell a difference in ride quality. I went from a floor to fender height of 36" to 39.5". From my research, the 3.5" gain is pretty typical. Cyber Monday treated me well and my next mod is on its way. I found a Banks Monster cat back exhaust system for crazy cheap so I pulled the trigger. My plan is to get some pics and video of the new stance and then the before and after sounds of the exhaust upgrade Twisted Evil

My plan for tires is to patiently wait for a good deal to appear on KSL for someone looking to dump their aftermarket rims and tires. I already found 2 sets but my calls reached them right after they sold. Preferably, I'd like to stick with an 18" rim (black, not chrome) and some 33-34" A/T or M/T tire. If the price is right, I'd go with 20's...but only if they're cheap Smile Let me know if you see anything!

Tundra uses a 5x150mm. Factory rims are an 18x8 +60mm offset. The offset is the major reason I'm moving away from the factory rims. I'd love to keep things simple and keep them, but even with a 275 (10.8") wide tire now, there is very little clearance with the UCAs.

Pretty much all aftermarket rims START at +30mm offset which gives me an extra 1.18" to play with. Since I'm looking at least for a 295 (11.6") wide tire I need the extra room. I'd prefer to stay in the 33-34" height range.

Why did they go to 5 lugs on the new Tundras when the new 4runners have 6 lugs?

Doesn't make sense to me.

The 6 lug configuration uses 12mm studs. The 5 lug uses 14mm studs which actually results in a net gain of strength increase. With these monster brakes on the Tundra, they probably could have fit 6 of these bad boys in there but I'm sure they wanted to keep things somewhat consistent between models.
