Re: Future planning
Ok, so in the spring we've got Moab and Price trips. Summer is too hot to go anywhere, unless we wanted to get up in the Uintahs or Sawtooths or somewhere else north and elevated. We should plan a big excursion for next fall. I'm thinking Rubicon, Ouray, Hole in the Rock, Kokopelli, something epic. What do you guys think?
Re: Future planning
Definitely something to think about. I'm not sure how many 3+ Day trips I will be able to get away with. My vacation time at work will be a lot more limited with me taking time off for the baby.

My Bro-in-law can lead us on a Death Valley trip. He's in Vegas and has been through that trail system multiple times

I'm game. If it was Ouray or somewhere else in CO my sister/dad with a built FJ40 and maybe a FJ60 by that time would maybe go too.

Re: Future planning
I would like to make an overnighter sometime this year to San Rafael Swell. Kevin I know your a fan. We should plan a club run down there.
If we are going to plan a big annual Club trip I will probably have to bag the classics Moab trip. I'm not saying that would really hurt my feelings. I just won't have vacation time for both. It's one or the other for me. I really don't care which. I've been to Moab, I wouldn't mind seeing some of these other places. This also depends on whether I'm ready for Thanksgiving. If I don't make Thanksgiving I will be more interested in Moab.

The swell is one of my absolute favorite places to go to in Utah. I love camping down there. Count me in for that trip.

I wanted to go to Death Valley before. I have to go to Death Valley now. When should we do this?
Re: Future planning
I'll ask him when the best time to go is. It gets HOTTTTTTTTTT down there. One of the cool things is the cabins along the way. You can drive in, find the cabins, stay in them for the night and then continue travel from there. They have all the amenities - all one has to do is bring some propane, I believe.

I like cabins. I have propane. Let's do this.
Re: Future planning
OK, I spoke with him today and he said best time to go is early spring/late fall since the temps will be pretty cool at night and that deters most of the locals...but he knows it really wouldn't bother us...
He actually has a group of friends there right now on a 5 day excursion - he couldn't go because of shoulder surgery. He is a paramedic/firefighter in Vegas so he has lots of time off. He would love to guide us around there so we just need to decide when we can all make the trip. So...when and for how long?
*EDIT - Oh, and he would really love to lead us on a trip to the Rubicon as well. Yeah, he's awesome...

With my new job spring is out for me since I'll be in a ton of training. Fall would be better but I'm just one person.

Re: Future planning
I'm good with next fall. We haven't bid for vacation at work yet, so I can get almost any time off I want next year. Once bidding is over I get a little more locked in. How does the middle of October work?
I think it'd be cool to spend three nights on the trail. With a day to get there and a day to get back, that still leaves a day or two to deal with any mechanical difficulties.

Re: Future planning
We get decent time. I've just already got 1 week scheduled for the baby and another week for family stuff. That leaves me 1 week and I like to have some time for randomness and then I've got 1 week sick time.
So really I have enough time if nothing else comes up.

Re: Future planning
My vacation bid starts in a couple days - does the week of Oct 20th work for everybody? Andrew, what would your BIL prefer?
Re: Future planning
As in a year from now?
I say we throw it on the calendar...
His schedule is VERY flexible. He works like 24 on 24 off 24 on and then gets like 6 days off. It's crazy.

Yes, he's a firefighter with Clark County. He became a paramedic first, which gave him a slight edge against the competition. He said being a rookie and going through "rookie school" was the hardest thing he's ever done in his life...they were MEAN...offroad_medic wrote:Isn't he a firefighter over there?
