Future planning Empty Future planning

Post by Kevin Thu Aug 23, 2012 3:39 am

I thought we could use a general planning thread to discuss upcoming runs, and then split off threads for specific runs once we decide on a date and place.

September is the NPLD service project and/or 5MP, what about October? I don't know how much time I'll have, between the T4R.org Classics trip and whatnot...

What if we make this a forum not thread? I think it will get pretty cluttered as a thread? Just a thought! Expedition Utah has one similar called "trip planning".

I'm not too worried about the thread being cluttered, I was thinking of this thread as a place to brainstorm and bat around trip ideas, and then open new threads once we had a specific trip in mind.

My personal preference would be to limit the number of subforums we have, you know? It ain't like we've got 2000 people posting here...

I always feel bad when we go out and the guys do all the driving. We should plan a run where we do NO driving. And all the cooking and stuff. So what about a Wives Run? Aubrey drives, my wife would like to learn, what about Britney, Ty? Andrew, does your wife drive or want to? Maybe next Mothers Day?

I would be good with that, if I thought there was any way possible to get Britt behind the wheel. Lets plan it for next spring/summer on an easy trail and I will work on getting her persuaded.

I'm definitely like this idea as my wife drives half the trails anyways. I think the first little bit Rattlesnake is a good beginner trail for the wives to learn on. Or we could just point them up Constrictor and say go!

What about MEG. You guys act like that was a good trail for beginers. But Brady is right as long as you stay on the trail and not attemp the boulder garden it is a fairly simple trail.

I felt like MEG was just a really bumpy road that rattled everything everywhere. After the first obstacle, Forest Lake isn't a bad learning trail.

I guess in all reality if we want to do it around Mother's Day AFC is out any ways. Should we set a date then plan a trail?

I like the idea of a trip to AF Canyon for a "learning" trail. My wife has been wheeling with me ever since we've been married (over 8 years now) - she has never driven and doesn't appear to want to. Plus, with my 4Runner being a manual and kind of struggling with some "lurching" at low speeds in low/low with my t-cases, she's kind of scared she's going to break something (so am I, honestly). Regardless, she still loves to go and I know she would love AF Canyon.

With the pretty fall colors right now, maybe we plan a day trip in AF Canyon to run Forest Lake and maybe even Mineral Basin for October? I can't wait 'til Spring...Smile

I'm out for October, I've got Classics Go To Moab and then my only other weekend belongs to my wife. Don't let me stop you guys though, we definitely need an October run on the books.

Just looked at the calendar. I'm out every Saturday except maybe the 27th in October as well. Maybe an early November run? I guess it will all depend how early we get snow this year. Of course, we need to run the Snakes with some snow - that should be interesting...

I'm game for whenever. Some snow on Snakes would make for an interesting run.

I would be good with this (A LITTLE SNOW, I don't have the tires for A LOT OF SNOW). November might be hard as well with Thanksgiving in Moab, but I will make an honest effort.

So we need a November trip. I know Ty is going to be down south for Thanksgiving, who else is down for Turkey Day In Moab? Or maybe an overnighter through the Swell or the Maze?

Will your rig be up and running by then?

If it's within distance I'd be up for a run somewhere, but if it's far like Moab I dont think my rig is reliable enough to make the trekk

I don't know if I will have my truck by then or not, but if I do I may be willing to trailer you if you want to go.

If you've got a truck, I've got a tow bar he can borrow. Andrew flat-tows his rig too, so I don't see anything wrong with that.

Hey that's a nice offer, I appreciate it. I think it would be more dependent on wether I could take the time off of work though, so I guess depending on the dates.

I will say that if you don't trust your rig to get you to Moab and back, I don't really want to run any trails too far from the freeway with you... Wink

Sounds like the truck is not going to happen til the first of the year. I tried to talk my dad into selling it to me sooner but he's not going for it.
