Yeah, I've got a copy of the FSM. Looking through it now.

Nah, been crazy busy at work. I'm planning on jumping the diagnostic port tonight and trying to rule out the COR module thing.
Small positive note: Learned how to drill and tap holes this week. It's preparation for field work and a good skill to have. I really should start tacking scrap metal together in the shop.

Definitely counting my blessings. We had lay-offs in November, luckily I was seen as too valuable to let go. Right now we've got more work than we can handle.

Jumped the Fp and B+ terminals in the diagnostic port, rig still didn't start up. I think that points to the fuel pump. I'm hoping to get that replaced this week.

Re: My '88 4runner
Sorry I should have checked this and piped up earlier. This smells like a fuel pump. Looks like you've figured it out already, but here's what I know about the subject. Fuel pumps do go out, and they are expensive. Since you have a first gen, just pull the cover under the rear seat. They won't kick on until cranking, so don't think you'll hear them (like a loud Chevy) unless you have the terminal jumped, or if you start cranking. We had fuel pump issues down in Moab this year on my brother's rig. Turns out the pump got dislodged and the rubber hose what partially pinched. What we should have done is pulled the pump out and inspected everything immediately. It'll take you like 15 minutes to have it pulled out so you can inspect everything and test it before you go buy parts. Also, since my tank was dented and the fuel pump bracket bent, I found a guy parting out a 4runner/pickup. I bought a tank/and a fuel pump and $20 of gas for $40.

That's a good idea. I'll pull it out and give a good look before I go purchase a new one.

Re: My '88 4runner
Anyone got any good ideas on getting the wires on the fuel sending unit disconnected? I found the plastic connector towards the back on the fuel tank. I'm terrible at getting plastic connectors to separate. Tips? Also, two of the 3 lines on the sending unit have hose crimps, and the other looks like a hex hard tube fitting. Ideas on that? Just soaked in with PB blaster hopefully that will loosen it up.

Re: My '88 4runner
Those connectors are a bitch. The plastic gets brittle, and dust gets up in them and glues them shut. Keep wiggling and prying, they'll come. I've sometimes had luck soaking connectors in penetrating oil for a couple hours to loosen up the gunk.
When you put them back together, a smear of dielectric grease and a wrap in electrical tape will make it much easier to get them apart next time.

Oops...sorry. I probably shouldn't have super glued that connector.

Got everything loose and out of the truck yesterday. Though I did bust on of the hard lines on the fuel pump bracket. Time for a new one....

Re: My '88 4runner
Lost my mudflaps on our PET trip earlier this month. So spent some time over the weekend making new mudflap mounts. Started with a quick release kit from FAT BOB's, but noticed it didn't fit at all how I wanted.
Cutting to length:
Milling out a long slot to insert the mudflad instead of mounting on the outside:
Cut down some Unistrut to mount to the bumper wings:
Finished pic arriving shortly...

Re: My '88 4runner
So during our Moab trip last weekend I learned that I'm sick of bouncing around on rocky roads to, from and in the middle of trails. I think it's time to look at a 3-link set up for the front, in addition to all the other crap I need to do this winter on Het Beest. I'm going to link some sites here for future reference.

Re: My '88 4runner
I like the Ruffstuff kit, if that's what you're going to do. What shocks are on there now, have you thought about trying a high end set of shocks first?
Re: My '88 4runner
I like the Ruffstuff kit as well. I'll have to look and see what's currently on there. I hadn't thought about trying a better set of shocks.
