Re: Official MTB Thread
I got Ian a medium Diamondback Somethingorother which is a little big for him but he'll grow into it. An XS is probably the right size for Kallin this week, but if he's growing like mine is I'd go for the S so he can stay on one bike longer.
Diamondback bikes are really good value for the components they ship with compared to other name brands, but you wouldn't get the Bike Store Experience...

I might be picking up a new (to me) bike tomorrow, so I’ll want to break it in soon.

Possibly. I think adding a full squishy to the garage is a good idea!

Next week? Thought you were in Moab this week. We were just literally in your back yard.

I'm good for Thursday. Eagle Mountain wrecked me, I need some hills to grind.
Re: Official MTB Thread
Eagle Mountain wrecked my shock too. I pumped it up to 280 PSI to try and get rid of some pedal bob, and now it's hissing with each stroke and the bob is worse than ever. Time for a new shock!
In my ongoing quest to waste money on crap instead of waiting and buying a quality unit, I ordered one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FLTZ2ZS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Should be here Thursday. I don't expect it to be anything amazing, but it's got a lockout which I sorely need so even if it sucks balls I can just lock it out and pretend I've got a hardtail until New Bike Day.

Re: Official MTB Thread
I want a good leg flogging tomorrow, but I'll probably be ready for another one by Sunday.
They say the bugs are already out on Antelope. You wanna come down here or ride with mosquito nets?

Not a bug fan, I'm leaning towards heading down that way. This is pending the to-do list on the house of course.

Re: Official MTB Thread
So i've been riding the hardtail a bit in the gully and decided I just don't like the way its setup. I also managed to pick up a grip load of goat heads. Since I don't want to invest in new rims or tires i'm giving the slime tubes a try.
I don't like how stretched out I feel on the bike. The bike came with a rather long stem 100mm, I ordered a shorter one 70mm off amazon to try out. I didn't want to go too short as its more of a cross country cruiser for me than a trail bike. I figured 70mm would be a good compromise. I've also grown to love my wide handle bars on the diamondback which are 780mm, the Treks at 680 feel super narrow now and I don't like the geometry on them. I picked up a set that are 760mm with a little bit more rise, hoping this in addition to the shorter stem won't make me feel so stretched out over the front tire. I know this will make the bike less stable on climbs, but the intent for this bike is mostly flat stuff and cruising around, hopefully I didn't waste a bunch of money and it will make it more comfortable.

Re: Official MTB Thread
I went to a 50mm stem and 750mm bars on Anklebiter, I noticed a little loss of climbing stability but not much. Mostly when I'm exhausted and leaning on the bars, the wheel is more inclined to track off center and send me into the scrub.
Answer: don't lean on the bars.
