Swell Trip
I know pretty much no one will be able to join but throwing it out just in case. I need to get out of the city and spend a few nights in the desert. However these night will fall on my crappy days off. I'm going to try and hit the Swell and spend the 16th and 17th sleeping in a tent, and come home the 18th.

Won't be able to make your trip, Josh.
Brad, I like the look of that weekend for The Swell.
Kevin, that sounds fun.

I can normally join you, unless you don't give me any notice and I already have something planned. Â

At the Wedge, I think. Â I hope to drop a truck at the end of the trail and shuttle back to camp, because I don't want to deal with the boring ride back on those dusty roads. Â We're thinking to camp Friday and Saturday nights, but folks could camp just one or the other or neither if you wanted.
Re: Swell Trip
I have a cycle cross bike but no suspension mountain bike. I'm not sure when I'm leaving Friday but tentatively I will be going to Emery and hen South to Cathedral Valley to camp somewhere in the area of Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon and then the next day go to Little Wild Horse area and debate if it's worthy of fighting tourists to hike get slot or not. A really good friend of mine who I used to work with will likely be coming along since they've never seen the area and have been dealing with some life crap so it will be a get away for us both

Re: Swell Trip
Eric wants to camp somewhere near Wedge campsite six, 39.122369, -110.751859. We should be there Friday and Saturday nights.
If you know what time you'll be around, pick a frequency and I'll listen for you.

Re: Swell Trip
I have no clue when I'll be around. I'm planning on camping on BLM right by Temple of the Sun just outside of Capitol Reef park boundaries. Saturday I will likely go south the cainville and then back north to factory butte and little wild horse wash and eventually out to Goblin Valley. I may stop and hike part of Little Wildhorse Canton depending on how busy it is since it will be Saturday. I also thought about doing part of Behind the Reef road or if you guys are camping up there Saturday as well than maybe I'll do Buckskin Gulch north past all the rock art and say hi.
The first part of my trip is fairly planned and then the second just involves loose plans with two full Jerry cans to go wherever I feel like going pretty much

Re: Swell Trip
Probably 146.520 unless somebody wants to be somewhere else. I won't be listening much while riding, but I'll try and remember to leave it on in camp.
Re: Swell Trip
What time are you guys planning on being back in camp around? Technically I'm still not authorized to use my ham but I plan on having it on while down there to listen to the sinbad repeater in case something goes wrong.

Re: Swell Trip
I honestly have no idea. We might be riding all day or we might wrap up in a couple hours.
I would definitely not get up on a repeater until you have your call sign unless it's an emergency. I don't think anybody is going to lose their shit if we're just in simplex, but you've got a Baofeng right? We could plan to use an FRS/GMRS frequency for contact if that'd make you feel more comfortable. 462.550 is GMRS channel fifteen.

Re: Swell Trip
I'm not planning on broadcasting at all unless shit really hits the fan. I'm just taking it along to listen. yeah I have the typical UV-5R. I'm good with GMRS if you want or whatever else. I'm not to worried about the FCC with some of the other things people have apparently broadcasted me yelling at people that weren't supposed to be on the radio. lol
I'm more just taking it along to play with and see if there is any chatter on the repeater or what I can hear down there with the vehicle antenna on the roof. plus the antenna will give me extra expo points so the added horsepower will be nice

Re: Swell Trip
Medic... did you get a permanent antenna mounted for your handheld, or a magnet? I've been toying with doing something for an external antenna, just because I use the thing oh, so much, and I'm feeling cheap lately.
Oh, and someday we gotta hook up on a trip so we can swap people we know in your department. It's been a few years, but I used to play with a few of them up there. Your sheriff and I met back when he first came to DCSO...
