Sixstringsteve's '99 4Runner Clara
Here's my rig.
'99 4runner Highlander
285/75/16s
That's it so far.
Plans right now:
- new steering rack bushings
- new lower bjs.
- possibly new inner and outer bjs.
- sliders
- 33's (it came with 33's)
- Tundra front caliper upgrade
- CBI style rear bumper
- some type of front bumper one day
Take the following parts from my Tacoma, Abner:
- front OME lift
- manual hubs & diffs (4.88s)
- upper control arms
- budbuilt skidplates
- helton hot shower
- rock lights
- Head Unit
- CB
Goals: to have a rig that's super comfortable and reliable for daily driving (90% of its life), driving on washboard/unimproved roads (8% of its life), and capable enough to crawl simple trails like Hole in the Rock Trail, Elephant Hill, Steelbender, Golden Spike (2% of its life). The goal of this rig is to make memories by take me camping to new places I haven't been before, and take me back to places I have been before. That's about it.

Will you keep the 33s or move the 35s from the taco over?

I'm keeping the 33's. I don't do much crawling anymore, so the 33's will be more than sufficient. I will be swapping the 4.88s though.

33s and 4.88s are what I plan to go to as well.

What motor does it have? It surprises me to hear that it has little power. My 3.4 on 285s has plenty of power.

yup, auto. It's driveable, but it's a pig, and the MPG sucks right now. 4.88s should fix that.

Yeah I've heard that autos are gutless that's why I love my standard. 4.88 will for sure help.

Re: Sixstringsteve's '99 4Runner Clara
anyone have any tips to pulling a rear elocker third in a 3rd gen without removing the gas tank skid? I tried over and over last night and I had to ultimately remove the skid. Looking for an easier way to get the new third in there.

A couple of tips here:

I'm surprised by this comment, though:
"Also if you have an elocker you will need to lock it to pull the third member out"

Thanks for the link!
Interesting. I didn't lock my third and the only issue I ran into was the fact that the stupid gas tank skid and rear swaybar were in the way.
