Ok, so the Cruisers are meeting at 9 at 5 Mile Pass, giving us 2 or 2.5 hours before we'd need to turn around and be back in time to meet Chris.

Steve, I haven't been out the PET yet, is there any point in driving 2 hours out from there or is the good stuff all farther out than that?

It depends on what you consider the "good stuff." It's not rock crawling. But there are plenty of scenic stops in the first 2-2.5 hours. It's a scenic back road. You won't use 4-lo.

I'm guessing there will be a lot of snow busting, which should be fun. I've heard of areas out near Wendover that are up to 4-5 feet deep! I doubt we'll see depths like that, I'm guessing more like 6" on the trail.

You've got it ... scenic stops, places of historical significance, like that. I don't need to be getting body damage to have a good time. Smile

Andrew, what do you think? Drive out with the Cruisers a ways, then come back, pick up Chris, and head south for Eureka and the mining district out there? It's a quick bust back to the freeway from Eureka, and maybe we can get Ty to come out since we'll be in his neighborhood...

you can even drive your rigs on the sand dunes at Little Sahara if you want. Only it costs $18 to enter the park (stupid state parks).

Let's do it, then. Andrew, I'll probably toss a gas can in your bed if that's all right, because I don't know yet what kind of mileage the '99 will get but I know it ain't good.

Chris, can you meet at Camp Floyd State Park at 1300?

I'm not sure it'll be that good. I think I have a heavier foot than you. Very Happy

Sounds like a good plan, are you sure you guys will want to go wheeling after you have been out all morning? I am hoping to be back from the Klondike by 12 PM so I will try to be there by 1PM (should take about 45 minutes to get to Camp Floyd Park).

I get about an average of 17 MPG in my 99

I'm excited, this should be a good full day of fun. Andrew, I'll see you at 5MP, and Chris, we'll meet you at Camp Floyd 1:00-ish and head for Eureka from there.

Anybody else coming?

Alright, that's the turnoff to Vernon Reservoir...I'll be there at 9am. I'll bring Kallin with me - maybe the boys can sit together and switch between our vehicles? What do you have in terms of radios? I only have two-ways right now (no CB).

It was a good day. Andrew and I met the Cruisers and rolled out the PET with them as far as Simpson Springs. Met some cool guys there and some pretty impressive LCs that look like they get used. Saw lots of cool side roads that will require exploring this summer and Simpson Springs is a cool campground to use as a base. We screwed around there for a bit after the Cruisers rolled on, then bombed back in to meet Chris. Gassed up and wound our way south on some farm roads until we popped out a little north of Erda, then followed the pavement down to Eureka. Let the boys run around checking out the town, drove down to Mammoth and Silver City, screwed around in the snow until the spawn were good and soaked and cold, then came home.

I think I put it in 4wd maybe 2 or 3 times all day, and one of those was to get out of the parking lot at Simpson Springs. Smile

Here is a link to a slide show from our trip out to Eureka, Mammoth, and Silver City.

Eureka Trip Slideshow

It was my first time heading out that direction. I might have driven through Eureka once before, but that was definitely my first time stopping there and looking around.

Here are some individual photos from the trip, if you would like to see more, please click on the link above.

I get a kick out of seeing the world through somebody else's eyes. Good shots, Chris. I really liked the one of your truck next to the highway - I should have known that's why I'd caught up to you! Smile

I figured you were thinking I was driving like a grandma or something. But yeah on the way out, I couldn't help myself, I had to take some pictures with those mountains in the background.
