Horrible Night 10-12-13

Well last night I was leaving work and kinda had a bad feeling for some reason. I was on my way to pick up my son and for some reason decided to take a 25 mph road instead of a 45 mph road, and after about a 1/4 mile from work BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! I am happy I took a different road because i'm sure it would have been a whole lot worse... Sorry the Pics are sideways.

I knew this was going to be LBJ failure as soon as you said "25 mph road".  I'm amazed that this always seems to happen at low speeds.

You're ok, I hope?  Do you have the truck or is it in a yard?  What's the plan?

Yeah I had heard of LBJ issues on T4R's, No injury other than my feel goods are hurt ha ha. I was able to have a friend of mine that owns a tow company come and tow it over to Tony Divino in Riverdale. I am going to file a claim with insurance, but for some reason someone thought they wouldn't cover it, but I'm pretty sure it should be???? Full Coverage with $250 Deductible so if thats the case not to expensive. The Quarter panel got slightly damaged, but the Runner took it pretty well and from the time of it failing I only had to move it about 10-15 ft to a stall luckily.. We will see what they say tomorrow but for now upset and already missing it.

That sucks man! Hopefully you get it fixed soon.

Now time to dig up some money somewhere to do my front end to avoid this mess....

Is there a better permanent fix to stop this issue??? If not I think I am going to just do both sides once per year even with being overkill, this has taught me a lesson and I can only imagine what would have happened on the freeway. Also I bought this rig in the middle of August from a lot, and it passed safety, but I am thinking it should have had play or showed that it was going out, do you guys think it would have failed if it was another inspector looking at it instead of the person from the lot? If so I think i'm going to raise hell with the dealership for selling me an unsafe vehicle that was illegally passed.

I do not think they would sell you a car that was unsafe. That can end badly for them. Did you buy a warranty with the runner? All I can say is, "shit happens"

Well $2200 from Toyota, I didn't do an insurance claim and I will be doing a lot of the work myself. I have $800 in parts and hopefully have it up by tomorrow!

Where are you located again? I'm not mechanically inclined whatsoever. In fact, I just learned to do brakes (thanks ben)

If you pay for half the gas money I'll come help and install everything free of charge (College budget woo  ) I would even bring uncooked clam chowder.

It's just an excuse to long travel man, beef the hell out of your suspension and don't worry about lower ball joints ever again
