2015 3rd Quarter Run

I do believe I'm on the hook for the 3rd quarter run this year. So, I'm going to open this thread for ideas and planning.

Please throw up: dates that will work for you, areas you want to explore, trails you want to run, etc.


I'd like to do a Moab trip, maybe sometime mid/late September. That being said, I'm flexible and can be talked into other options.

I'm down for a Moab trip.  I'm not working the weekend of the 26th, but if everybody else likes another weekend don't let me hold you up.  I'm in Oregon early September so that time frame is pretty much out for me.

There's an outside chance I'll have the Bastard up by then and ready for most anything, if not I'll be in the Wiferunner and wouldn't want to risk her truck on anything much harder then a 5-6 rated trail. If it isn't stupid muddy I think I could get that truck through Kane Creek...

Hey guys, I haven't been on here in a while, super busy with school and work but I've done some pretty decent mods to the ol 3rd gen and moab always sounds great to me! I've converted a coupple buddies to toyotas (a 1st gen tacoma 6" lift, 33s, Diff lock 3rd gen 4runner bone stock w/diff lock) recently from subarus and mom sedans and they are itchin and burinin to get them on the trail. We have a tentative plan to go to the san juans in Ouray, CO from 9/24-9/27 It's a solid 6hr drive and maybe even longer in our super fast toyota race trucks. Anyone who wants to come sure can but we would still love to do another trip during september to Moab!

We might be down near Ouray in the same time frame. Would be cool to hook up down there if so!

Yes! I know the drive is a little long but it is so well worth it for anybody that hasn't (or has for that matter) been there! The scenery and mountains are like nothing here in utah! crawling all over old mining roads getting you up to 13,000+ ft. mountain passes always with a mine that needs a good look see with a flashlight of course! Colorado has mountains you can actually drive up and over while we have the red rocks, Im just trying to get the best of both, the cool air in moab and the neon fall foliage of the san juans.

We have any solid dates yet? I need to ask for time off soon, before the weekends are gone. I can probably get the weekend of the 26th off, the weekends before and after I won't be able to. Let me know if those are for sure dates and I'll request it

I think the two weekends that will work best are 9/11-9/12 and 9/25-9/26. Anyone prefer one over the other?

Both of those work for me, I'd prefer the 25th-26th too.

I'm going to request the 25th weekend off, before I can't.

Family reunion just got moved to that weekend. I'm out.

I think the 25/26 weekend is the best for most of us. Shall we plan on Moab then?

Should we camp at the same place we did when we went do for "classics go to moab"?

What trails are planned? The ole' Taco isn't up for anything crazy

Up to you, but I'd rather find a patch of dirt in the boonies.

Same same. I'm working on the Bastard again but it definitely won't be running in time. I'm thinking Bartlet Overlook, Top Of The World, Lockhart Basin, maybe Elephant Hill? Gotta have a day trip permit for Elephant Hill now, but in Elephant Hill and out Beef Basin would be a killer day trip.

I'd like to hit run Kane Creek again and maybe Hell's Revenge, anyone else think they'll be able to run those?

I really think the Wiferunner could handle Kane Creek if the weather is good. The only part that has me nervous is that offcamber bit with the big rock before you drop into the canyon proper, and I think with the right line I could get her truck through that. As long as it isn't sloppy like last time.

I'd be fine with Hell's Revenge too.

Yeah, the rain made that first part of Kane Creek much more difficult.

Sold on Moab? Any interest in Escalante? Just to do something different. Lots of dirt roads out there, little reservoir near town had kick ass fishing last time I was there. Calf Creek Falls is a great hike.

Just throwing it out there for something a little different. If you want a more exploring rather than wheeling trip. I'm game either way

Hells revenge is always a fun one! I've never hit Kane Creek.
Escalante is beautiful country the only time ive really explored that area was the first road trip in my BMW early this summer after all that crazy rain, i made it up about 2-3 miles of hells backbone from the escalante side before i gave up because there was more mud than tire in my wheel well.
I would love to take the runner down that area and explore, a little more but moab is always a classic in mid fall.

If everyone wants more exploring that wheeling then let's do that. I'd like to get in a wheeling trip at some point this year.

If we're voting, then I vote for Moab.  I'd love to see more of Escalante/Grand Staircase, but I've got an itch for some technical wheeling too.

It looks like Ty won't be able to throw the 4th quarter trip together, so if that falls through we can do Escalante then?  Maybe start in the Swell and go all the way down on dirt?
