Re: NPLD @ AF Canyon Report
Is that a hint?
I spent most of three days up AFC this past weekend helping build a new fence around Graveyard Flats. We spent all of Thursday moving 14 foot 8" logs from the staging area at Dutchman Flat to the build site - the road up had a tippy section that scared the truck drivers delivering the logs, so we moved them behind Jeeps towing UTC trailers, 12 logs at a time. We spent most of Friday moving the rest of the logs and getting started on the build. Friday night we camped at the Mary Ellen Gulch trailhead and had some informal classes around the campfire. A couple of the Forest Service employees joined us, and it was cool to have them there hearing our perspective and sharing theirs with us. Saturday morning a whole bunch more people showed up, and after we got some bugs worked out of the process we started hammering out fenceline. By 5 pm Saturday we had the entire fence built, a parking lot area leveled out, and a section of road torn up and reseeded. We never did have time to get any trails in, but that's ok, the canyon will be there next time.
Safety meeting Saturday morning:
Getting the first chunk of fence going
Crossing rough terrain made for inventive solutions
Cheryl from the Forest Service and Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters drive the last 2 nails
