2014 Meet and Greet / Trail Run
Well here is that meet Noah was talking about. It is actually for TW and UTAT and for well anyone really that is located in Utah.
1st Official Meet and Greet: AF Canyon 2014 Meet and Greet / Trail Run.
Meet at Cabelas off the Thanksgiving Point exit on Sunday June 22nd, 2014 at 11am. I confirmed today that we are good to go to meet there and we will need I the south end of the parking lot.
We have not had a meet and greet for UTAT or for the TW Utah group. Most of you are on the forums but it is hard to organize any type of event. So let's meet up, BS a bit and then go have some fun in AF Canyon. Even is your not gonna come wheel come stop by and say hello and meet some fellow members.
Trail to be run would be:
Forest Lake
Mineral Basin
Mary Ellen Gultch
Another I can't remember the name of

What's the ratings of these trails? Could a stock second gen do them or would my fully built 1st gen be better?

Ha ha I don't know is sarcastic or ..... Lol but most of the trails are pretty stock friendly. Mineral basin is more of a armor required. forest is easy and is completely doable being stockish

A stocker on Mineral should expect to take body damage and high-center frequently. If you're careful, you can get a stocker through Forest Lake without trouble, but be aware of the potential for body damage if you take the wrong lines. Lower Mary Ellen is stock friendly, but there's one spot just past the valley headed up to the switchbacks that a stock truck will probably need a strap to get through.

Kevin so my wife's 2nd gen would be OK with me driving or would Fred be better. I just want to have a challenge and Fred just walks over everything being on 37s

Fred is way too much truck for AFC. The second gen would be fine on Mary Ellen until you get to the one obstacle just above the meadow, and ok on Forest Lake if it's dry and you're careful. I wouldn't take a stock truck up Mineral though.
The thing with American Fork Canyon is, the trails are thrashed by too many guys with underbuilt rigs making illegal bypasses and flailing on obstacles that are too hard for their truck, and too many guys with overbuilt trucks going off trail looking for a challenge because they're bored. It's beautiful up there, and yeah, there's a couple trails where a little bit of skill and some mild mods are helpful or even necessary, but you're not going to find a challenge for Fred, and if you "challenge" the stock 2gen you run the risk of getting in over your head and tearing up the trail.

Re: 2014 Meet and Greet / Trail Run
Is that the Cabelas that's in Lehi? Thats only a four hour drive for me from Grand Junction. I have to do some repairs before I hit any trails though. Hopefully I can get them done before that weekend. I have a rear hub seal that's leaking like a screen door and my inner fender wall in the engine back has become detached and is just basically hanging there in the front. I need to rivet that sucker back up...
