August 29th
One of the fellows on T4R.org contacted me and wants to head out on this weekend. He's got a stock 5th gen and doesn't want anything too hairy, so we're thinking maybe explore off Mirror Lake Highway, or down Skyline, or maybe into the Swell. Anybody else free?
Re: August 29th
Is it going to be a Sat/Sun trip or the full weekend?

Sounds good. One truck or two?
Re: August 29th
Sweet. Waiting to hear back from Mikey on T4R.org and then we'll set a place and time to meet up.
Re: August 29th
So Mikey the fella on T4R.org isn't flying in until late Saturday afternoon. That kinda puts a kink in the idea of a daytrip. I'm think I'm going to try and meet him in Kamas around 1630 and then head up to find camp. If any of you want to go up earlier and meet us up there I'd say go ahead and do that. Bring some paper plates or something to make signs with in case you find a nice camp that's off the beaten road.
Re: August 29th
Sounds good! I'm not familiar with that area at all, so I might need some more directions/details later this week! My brother and I are both bringing our wives and planning on staying the night... Who is all planning on camping over night?
Re: August 29th
Kevin, I'm stoked for this weekend! Thanks again for setting it up! My brother and I are totally down to head up earlier than 4:30 if anyone else is willing/wanting, but we do not know the area at all! This will be our first time there... Could we head up there earlier, play around, find camp and then come back down to meet Mikey? Or is that too far back and forth and not worth it?
How many people are going?
How many are staying the night?
I can't wait! Here is my cell number if someone wants to start a group text? 801-529-3534

Re: August 29th
Probably too far up there to drive all the way back to Kamas, but you could always go play around and then meet us at the trailhead if you'd like. I don't know who else is going up or when, couple other guys are working on making it but haven't said for sure yet.
I'm going to try and meet Mikey at the Food Saver in Kamas, here: 40.639953, -111.284539
Here's the turnoff from 150 to Murdoch Basin: 40.626389, -110.960317. I don't remember if it's signed or not. Maybe a mile or so up that road is a flat where anybody bringing their uncool side by side (*cough*ANDREW*cough*) can park and unload: 40.634187, -110.933722. We could meet there if you wanted, Dustin. Here's the route that we'll be driving: http://binged.it/1Lw7guB.
There's lots of stuff to explore up 150 if you want to go up early, you could drive Broadhead Meadows which is right off the start of Murdoch Basin Rd (turnoff 40.635459, -110.942048), Trial Lake is right near the Murdoch Basin turnoff (40.594537, -110.997274), you could go screw around in Soapstone Basin (40.581177, -111.048490), you could drive up Norway Flat (40.602423, -111.116047), the area is riddled with random dirt roads and mild trails, pick one and see where it goes. Everything is pretty well signed, but here's the link to the MVUM that shows what's open: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5414245.pdf
My plan, as of right now, is to meet Mikey in Kamas at 1630. If that holds (it might not, his flight doesn't get in until 1530), it'd put us at the start of Murdoch Basin Rd. about 1700, and if we don't screw around we'd be in Murdoch Basin itself probably around 1800 giving us lots of time to find camp before dark. I have no idea where that's going to be, I've only been in as far as Echo Lake. I saw some decent campsites when I was up there, we'll have at least four trucks and maybe more so we'll probably head all the way to the end to see if we can find something to fit us all. Sunday we can do whatever, get up early and get moving or be lazy all morning, we can find more dirt to drive on or hike or fish, whatever. I don't have to be back in town any specific time so I'm down to screw around all day.
Anyway, that's the plan as it sits.

Re: August 29th
Kevin, what road do you think you guys will set up camp off of? Road 150, 137, 416 etc.? (road #s according to google maps)

Re: August 29th
137 is Murdoch Basin Rd. We'll find somewhere near the top of there.
Are you going to make it?

Re: August 29th
I'm going to try and make it. Probably won't be up there till Saturday late afternoon, evening. What CB channel will you be on?

What do we normally use, 22?
I'm guessing we'll be in Kamas between 1630-1700. If you can get there close to then, we'll wait for you.

Boo!
Re: August 29th
Its going to be a blast! I will have 3 rigs (me, brother, buddy from work) coming up... We will be going up earlier Saturday afternoon and will meet you guys up there Saturday night!
Kevin, thanks for the detailed info! I have been studying it, and now feel very comfortable with the area! I also have a great map and also going to download a map app. I might run back to Kamas and try to send you a pin of where we will be... can I get your cell number? We will make sure to get a good spot up top with lots of room! I will also mark some paper plates with "T4R" and arrows. Stoked to meet everyone this weekend... See you in a couple of days
