toyota drive train in a cj5??
Well I ended up with a 74 cj5 from my dad. ( traded the wifes 90 runner for it.) Has the 4.2 inline with The t15 trans and Dana 20 tcase with Dana 30 front and 44 rear. Thinking on swapping in a 22re and all the stock stuff from my 85.

Having ran the 4.2 in my dads cj-5 if it runs I would leave it. They are very good motors.

Oh, hush. Can you imagine the shit-fit on RME if he puts an entire Toyota drivetrain into a CJ? I wanna see the carnage!

Hahaha. The cj5 runs great but only gets like 8-12 mpg and has only 3 gears. I want to beable to drive it and I have all the parts laying around. I'm not saying my mind is made up. I know the 258 is a good motor but its just not really all that good by today's standards.

In my opinion, the only advantage to the 22re is the e! My dad lives his. He would rather it than his 4.0. It runs strong. I do think it has the t18 tied to it!

I just wish it was fuel injected. I already have a 78 ford f150 I can't afford to drive.

As far as axles the 44 is just as strong as the Toyota but the Toyota will dominate the 30.

I also am tired of the way most jeep owners think they are better cuz they can buy there's built not build it like we do. Read my other post jeep vs Toyota it kinda set this in motion

You're missing the point. Any actual merits of the Jeep drivetrain be damned, this isn't about that. This is about driving every Jeep fanboy in the world into a frothing apoplectic rage. This Jeep-ota would get posted on every single 4wd-related forum out there. The internet slap-fights would be epic.
AJ must do this.

Do it! If only for the fuel injection and transmission. The 3 speed t-15 sucks!

That's kind of the point. Lol. Also I like doing things against the grain. I like to build what is not common.
