Day trip Friday April 5th
So I finally have a day off and convinced my wife to go out for a day exploring on some trails. If there is anyone not heading to Brigham for SAS action that would like to go out then let's arrange something. I haven't decided where to go yet but am open to suggestions.

Right now I'm thinking either going out on the pony express route or going up to the north side of the great salt lake and trying to find some old ghost towns. Nothing crazy by any means but something to get out and drive.

I'll join you! I'm in Logan at USU and haven't gone exploring with other people all year.

If you plan a long day of it, you can go out the Transcontinental Railroad, down through Lucin and Wendover, and come back on the PET.
Re: Day trip Friday April 5th
About how long do you think that would take Kevin? I know it's long so I don't know how my little girl would do in a carseat that long but it would get out to everything I've wanted to get to.

Re: Day trip Friday April 5th
A long day, probably too long for a little one in a car seat unless she's very patient. You can do the PET to Wendover in 5-6 hours if you don't stop along the way, and I'd bet it's another 6 at least between Wendover and Corinne via the Transcon.
Re: Day trip Friday April 5th
Hmmm yeah she wouldn't like that probably. I've been out on PET to skull valley before so maybe the transcontinental. Anything worthwhile out in those little ghost towns?

Haven't seen them yet. You wanna put your trip off a week? I'm going to be in the Silver Reef above Wendover Friday night, weekend after this - we could depart from there and head north east, picking up ghost towns and such along the way...
Re: Day trip Friday April 5th
Next Friday I'm free but definitely not Saturday since I'm stuck at a wedding all day. I saw your going to be out at the salt flats at the end of this month, how feasible is it to hit anything from our there?

The salt flats are right below the Silver Reef mountains, you pass them coming south from Lucin going to Wendover. They'd be a great jumping off point for explorations northward. We could camp at City of Rocks and split the trip up - that'd give us more time for ghost town hunting, and have the added benefit of driving Ty NUTS, he's been wanting to do that trip for years.
Re: Day trip Friday April 5th
I work the 26th but would be able to meet you up there for a full day of exploring on the 27th as long as my wife hasn't planned anything yet.

IMHO, coming from Lehi, if you going all the way up to the north end of GSL you might as well make the loop. You a good 1.5 hours from Corinne, then another hour from anything good. By the time you hit lucin you might as well go home through Wendover.

So I'm planning on just heading out to five mile to maybe play around some, then getting on PET for a little bit. I don't know if you still are wanting to come down Snivilous but if you don't want to make the drive for just some easy exploring I totally understand. Let me know what you're thinking.

I thought about it, I just don't want to break anything or have anything happen out there without anyone else with me especially where I've never ran it before.

Understandable. I was suggesting if snivilous wanted to come down. If he hasn't ran it before it would be worth the drive. If you stay on the main trail and don't try anything stupid you won't break anything. Constrictor is the rough one.

Where is the start of rattlesnake once you get to the main five mile area?

A is the parking lot, B is the head of the canyon where the trail starts. There's a sign just inside the canyon mouth. The end of the trail is the giant tailings piles you'll climb, at the top you can split right or left and loop back around to the parking lot, or keep heading uphill and explore. I wouldn't try and tackle Waynes World or Constrictor yet, but that's up to you.
Like Ty says if you pick your lines right there's really no risk of breakage on Rattlesnake though, just a couple spots you might want to look at carefully.

I'm agree, unless you happen to be Ty or Andrew then we try to make you break stuff.

Well since I've wanted to run it and you guys are convincing in your proposal, I'll probably just go run it. As for constrictor and Wayne's World, I have seen plenty of video of those and things getting broken that I won't be running them for quite a while.

I'm totally down. It would be a nice way to finish up testing week. You just need to tell me how to get to the meet up spot once I hit Brigham City; I don't know where anything is outside Cache Valley. And at what time to meet up, I have Calculus until 1130 and would rather not miss it (though I can, not like I understand anything going on in that class).

Re: Day trip Friday April 5th
We could just meet up in the Cabelas parking lot in Lehi and we could head up from there. It will be a little bit of a drive from Logan though so about what time would you want to meet up at?

Brady tackled most of Constrictor with his 32" AT tires and a busted center diff, and I think with real four wheel drive he probably could have done the whole thing. He used his sliders for sure, but he did it. Do you have sliders yet?
Re: Day trip Friday April 5th
Not yet. I've been looking for some that I like and that would also function as a step for my wife. She loves having the running boards on my runner for some reason. So of they get damaged then I may be able to prove my point and get some sliders Are there any you guys like that could double as smaller steps? I've looked into the Allpros with fill plates or something similar.
