Foxnroxshuttle.com is doing free Crest shuttles for the rest of the year. We need to do it.

If we can get eight riders in on it it's $600/person, for four nights in stocked huts and all food/sleeping bags/etc provided.
I like the idea but don't see any mention of bathing facilities. Last thing I want to do is share accommodations with

Yeah man! Crest was a great ride. Using the chairlifts at Sundance wasn't bad either.

26x4.6", but it's got clearance for a full 5". And they're HUGE. No fun on pavement, and way too expensive to waste on that anyway. I'm looking to put together another wheelset that'll let me run like a 29x3 for proper trail riding or a 2.3/2.4ish slick thing for pavement.
Anklebiter is going to feel like a rocket after I ride this thing around all winter.

What’s the point of those super fat tires? Snow riding? Riding across a lake if you pedal fast enough?
Wait, this isn’t like the stanced diesel truck thing right??

That was the original idea. Some guys like them on regular trails because apparently you get mad traction with that huge contact patch. I'll give these a shot on the dirt, but I'm skeptical the extra traction is going to be worth the weight penalty?
Re: Official MTB Thread
Prolly take the New Fatness out to Eagle Mountain in the morning, anybody wanna ride?
Re: Official MTB Thread
Don't think I can make it.
Anyone want to ride Tues or Thurs evening next week?

Slacker.
I might be down for Thursday.
Re: Official MTB Thread
This bike does not feel fast. But I set my best time up Nirvana so far, by a long shot. And holy cow, the traction with these 4.7s is amazing! I can get out of the saddle and lean on the handlebars and mash up hills and I'll still stall out well before the rear tire even thinks about breaking free. It's fantastic. On the other hand, holy cow the pedal strikes. Super wide bottom bracket = pedal strikes all day. And I'll have to do some playing with tire pressure, I don't know what they're at now but I'm pretty sure it's too high because I get way too much rebound effect at slow speeds, and there was no suspension effect at all coming down the hills. Rattled my teeth out.
But I didn't get it to be a downhill ripper, I got it to be a utility bike and I think it's going to do a good job at that. I'll need a couple long rides on it to see if it's comfy, and then once I'm sure it's a keeper I'm going to start thinking about that 29 wheelset for it.

Just in case anybody else can make it, Eric and I are leaving late tomorrow morning to shuttle Black Dragon Canyon, then camping at the Wedge and riding Goodwater Rim on Sunday.

Re: Official MTB Thread
Two snakebites almost cleaned me out of patches. Gotta figure out what that was all about, because I wasn't hitting the rim. What else? Big tires were super squeaky in the dust and sand. The low PSI definitely smooths out the trail when you're at speed, but the undamped bouncing when you're climbing Goodwatery chunk was getting annoying towards the end. The bike definitely rolls a little slower but corners faster than Anklebiter - I feel like they're probably the same speed up the hills, but the 29er is much faster down. The 780mm bars are awesome when I'm picking a line, but I think they're too wide for endurance riding because my neck and back were aching by the end.
It'll work. I'll get those 29x3s for it and see how that works out, then I'll decide if I need to put a suspension fork in the rotation.

Re: Official MTB Thread
Draper parks and rec just purchased a snow dog. The bike trails in Corner Canyon will be groomed for fat bikes this winter.
Re: Official MTB Thread
Do those trails stay covered for more than a few days?
