Beast - Jason's 97 limited T4R
Hello everyone! Been lurking around finding groups here in Utah. I am surprised there are not that many, Especially here in S. Utah. But anywhozlebees I'm Jason and I just picked up my 97 limited last weekend. Been working on some small things to get him registered, which was done today! WooT! I reside in St. George and love to go off roading, long walks on the beach and drenching myself in mud.

Re: Beast - Jason's 97 limited T4R
Thanks for the welcome! Can't wait to get out to the trails. I've got a bit to do on my rig before then though. Does anyone have any experience with Straightening/replacing a core support? Tips/tricks/referral? I started to get into it and realized I was in a touch over my head! It isn't to bad, I have never worked with frame/body work before.

I played a little with a bent core support on an '85. My advice if you want to get it right is to strip everything off first so you know exactly what you're dealing with and have good access to get it straight.
It's probably held to the fenders with spot welds and panel adhesive. If you wanted to get really deep, you could drill out the spot welds and buy a straight core support. That might line up better in the long run, but if the fenders are tweaked too you might open a can of worms.
Do you know if the frame is straight? If not, the core support might not be worth the effort.

I've purchased another core support (before I knew they were held with spot welds) to replace. I haven't tore it all down just yet, started to and then put it back together. LOL I'm not sure if the frame is bent at all. Looks like the only thing that is slightly out of whack it the end pieces in the 3rd picture, but for all I know it could be bent to shit too. I need to learn more so I can fix these.
The panels seem to line up ok with the doors, there is no pinching or anything. Im going to look closer today after work. Take more pictures and all that fun stuff.

Very BIG. I'm hoping that there isn't much damage, I just want to take out the old, put in the new and pretend that never happened.

Re: Beast - Jason's 97 limited T4R
Welcome! I helped replace a core support last year on a 95 prelude. We had a donor vehicle with a straight one. It didn't take that long to drill out all of the spot welds, especially considering you only have to drill out one support, not two.
You may not be on the road, but my brother is going wheeling in St. George this weekend. He works for Rock Slide Engineering, so he'll be driving one of those lame, expensive jeeps to showcase their products rather than his old 4runner though.

Thanks MacKay. It hasn't been too bad drilling them out, just started last night. I have already ruined one bit doing this. Time to go get another one. I'm working my butt off the get him on the road.

Worked most the weekend, but I managed to get through and this is the end result. I didn't think to take pictures during the install. Here is the after shots though.

Re: Beast - Jason's 97 limited T4R
That doesn't look terrible at all. The drivers side headlamp is still pushed in a bit maybe?
Re: Beast - Jason's 97 limited T4R
I think the drivers side got hit harder than thought. I believe that, yes it is pushed back and also pushed out some. The frame rail has a slight bend and the tire is almost right up against the flare when turning. Sigh.
