Devins 98 Limited
Well i guess ill try to keep this page updated as well. But the main detailed one can be found at
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/182780-wikkis-98-limited-build.html
Anyways i bought it all stock with 210,000 miles on it. first thing i did was put on Bilstein 5100 all the way around for the 1st gen tundra with LC 8 wraps in the rear and TRD Tundra coils up front.
Before:
After:
Well i ended up needing new tie rods so i was able to get those in and then headed out to test everything out on Rattlesnake. I get out there about 1/4 mile off of the highway and i hear a big scrape noise and a bang. Well needless to say i ended up with a failed snap ring on the front driver side Bilstein.
Ended up looking like this
And this underneath
So i limped it back to the shop to take it apart and replace the snap ring. I got the snap ring all replaced and then decided to do the brakes while i was at it and had the time. So once all of those were done i went up the point of the mountain by cabelas in lehi just to go off the road into the bumpy dirt to test out the struts to make sure the spring was not going to push through it again. Well that passed the first test. Now hopefully on wednesday i can go out the Rattlesnake again and test it for real this time. I think im going to end up taking off my front sway bar at the least to really test out the front suspension and see how it does.

Build or buy some sway bar discos. You will for sure get more flex with it unhooked, but I wouldn't remove it all the way (ask me how I know). I would however take the rear sway bar off and leave it off.

Re: Devins 98 Limited
So i actually have new rear sway bar disconnects a member on t4r.org made me and im waiting on the quick disconnects for the front currently... so i plan on having those on once i get them. Then im just trying to decide what to do for extended front brake lines. I cant seem to find anyone around here that has them in stock for the fronts.. So i may just special order some uninversal fronts to use.

Re: Devins 98 Limited
Well... I got my front suspension all fixed and on correctly. My front disconnects will be getting shipped out on Monday to me. Then I was able to also add in a Rear bumper and tire carrier I bought from Ark Master and get that all installed. I will upload some pics of the finished product as well as a test run with the new suspension setup and the rear bumper on as well here in a few minutes once the images are uploaded Made me one happy guy... now to just wait for the front disconnects.

No. He is now going with a different setup completely and he is going to buy another rig that is trail only... Then going to do a LT on the runner I believe and the rear bumper with tire swingout wasn't in the new plans with the runner so I broke and bought it from him before anyone else could on Wednesday lol

Re: Devins 98 Limited
Well... Ordered my 33s today and they will be here this afternoon... so I may have those on later on today hopefully! Then on to some trimming off the wheel wells in the rear. Also my front quick disconnects should be getting shipped out today and hopefully will get them later this week and installed and hoping to go out on a trail to test everything out either Friday or Saturday! If anyone is up for Snakes or Little Moab Friday or Saturday let me know

Re: Devins 98 Limited
Why are you trimming the rear wheel wells? I would be more worried about the front. Be careful with the rears. They have a punch weld that will need to be welded back together . My 33s tucked fine in the rear.

Re: Devins 98 Limited
Well here is the finished produce from putting the 33s on. I am definitely going to have to trim the front bumper wednesday to get them to fit good. But also just driving around, im not sure yet but i may be rubbing the frame with the back side of the tire. I am not positive on that yet. But has anyone else had this issue by chance? i am thinking just getting 1 inch spacers to help with that for the fronts for now then get spacers for the rear later on. Next up the silver side panels and flares and front bumper that is left after trimming will be getting painted black. Then hopefully i can go test everything out again on wednesday somewhere. if anyone is up for some wheeling let me know!

Re: Devins 98 Limited
I rubbed frame when I had 285/75s on our '99. You can throw spacers on, but then you're likely to rub on the firewall.
Re: Devins 98 Limited
He should be fine with 1 or 1.5 inch. I ran 2 inch and only tuned on the pinch weld. That was an easy fix.

Re: Devins 98 Limited
yeah I am not positive on exactly what I will do with it yet. I was talking with Noah a little yesterday... so I am definitely cutting some of the front bumper for sure. Then I may try to take a hammer to the pinch welds if I really am catching there. But I guess we will see exactly where I am rubbing other than the front bumper first.

All I did was hammer the pinch welds. Seemed to work good for me.

Re: Devins 98 Limited
Yeah that's what Noah was telling me last night. So im gonna be at the shop either today after my finals getting the bumper done and the pinch welds or else it may have to wait until tomorrow. Luckily its not terrible when im turning though so its good most of the time.

Re: Devins 98 Limited
So on my lunch break I was able to trim the front bumper so I don't rub anymore.. But looking at it I am going to have to get spacers... Reason being is I am actually rubbing just a little bit on the frame. We were able to find some tire rub marks there so that will be what is coming up next I guess you could say

Re: Devins 98 Limited
Welp, the weekend came and went and I was able to get a few things done on the runner. Since I was rubbing on the frame without a spacer I was able to get spacers in the front and went with spidertrax 1.25" and now im just waiting for the rears to come in the mail.
After getting the spacers on I then started rubbing on the pinch welds so I was able to hammer those out and get them pushed them back to the point they will not rub anymore. And they definitely feel a lot better already!
And then for the finished result for a little while until I feel like taping everything off to paint the fenders and the side panels on the doors.
*not sure why the pics are all so blurry

Re: Devins 98 Limited
Front Sway bar quick disconnects came in on Christmas eve and yesterday i was finally able to get them installed.
Out with the old and in with the new
the new ones are about an inch longer than the old ones and have significantly reduced the body roll since i have been driving around town...I cant wait to get them off road and test everything out with the sway bars disconnected.
And installed. Cannot wait to go out. Will have pictures up soon with them disconnected!

Yes they are! they are way beefier than the stock ones haha. Still needing to get out to test them out and see how the front 33s stuff up into the wells and see if i need to do more trimming... But with all this snow i dont really feel too comfortable going by myself haha kinda sucks but oh well what can ya do but wait.

I like them as well.. Alot less body roll since they were installed thats for sure. Now if i could just go out to actually test with them off.
