Sooooooo I may have spoke too soon. Can we plan for May? My departure from the po po is probably going to be delayed a month and I'm going to have another test for school at a currently undetermined date in April.

I can probably pull off an overnighter once I know when my test is. But it will have to be on a day off. I'm banking all my vacation for pay out to (mostly) pay off my school debt

I'm not sure I can swing 2 Moab trips in 2 months. I'm good for either April or May. You guys should come up this way the month we don't hit Moab.

Gonna have to be south somewhere probably for both months. As much snow as have (and are getting again this weekend) Most everything is going to be covered until July

Made the mistake of checking out this bike at the local shop yesterday.

Ok, but if you're looking at 27.5 plus hardtails, don't pull the trigger until you've looked at the Salsa Timberjack.

Yeah, I like the Deore 27.5+. I'll have to see if any local shops have one I can look at.

I was way faster on the downhills, but Josh kicked my ass up the hills in Dimple Dell. I ordered a set of Fatty Strippers today, gonna see if I can reduce the rotating weight of these monster 4.5s a little bit.

Anyone have experience with Motobecane bikes/frames?

Or, stuff from this here: https://www.bikeisland.com/cgi-bin/BKTK_STOR20.cgi?Action=List&SubCategory=Bikes:%20Mountain

Eric rides a Motobecane Phantom 29, he likes it well enough.

I've thought about ordering from there several times. If they'd had the Nighttrain in my size I would have bought that instead of the Diamondback El Oso last fall, and this last time around I seriously considered a Sturgis fatty instead of the Growler. I did buy a wheelset for Nicole's bike from them at a really good price. The two things to watch out for on bikesdirect bikes are really outdated/wonky geometry on some of the bikes, and they like to mix good and crap components - good cranksets on shitty bottom brackets, high end cassettes on crap freehubs, lousy shifters with good derailleurs, that kind of stuff. I'd totally buy one for a knockaround/beater bike, but I'd shop carefully if you were looking to get something you'd want to ride for a while. Look past the good components they're advertising and find where they're slipping the garbage in, and be sure you're ok with that.

Near as I can tell, bikeisland is just a clearance outlet for bikesdirect returns and second quality merch.

Screw that other guy, I'm down for a ride in April. But my work schedule is fixing to get all fuckered up here in the next couple weeks and I have no idea what weekends I'm working now, so ... maybe? Pick a date and I'll try and make it happen.

I think I talked Eric into daytripping Goodwater this Sunday. I know neither of you are coming, but I'm inviting you anyway.

Don't know. All I know is we're almost definitely going from 8 hour shifts to 10 hour shifts, but what that's going to look like in terms of a daily/weekly schedule is still up in the air. I'm holding out hope for 8 days on 6 days off, but it's not my call.

All I know for sure is that my existing schedule is getting goobered in the near future.

You guys should pick a date in May that works for you both and I'll try and make it work for me. And then maybe Brady and I should get together somewhere closer (City of Rocks?) in late March or mid April.

My schedule is going to be pretty flexible in May. I just need to know dates ahead so I can block out my schedule. Just can't be gone for a bunch of days because no more paid vacation and I need to save my pennies for a possible new employment opportunity. Also not 100% sure when, likely June or July but i'll be going to Prescott AZ for 10 days for the afore-mentioned employment but it could be in May.......
