Ben, I have a magnet mount for my truck that probably around 18" that I just run when the cable through a door. I also have an 18" ish whip that is normall on my handheld that gets great reception honestly.

Kevin, if I make it up your way on Saturday depending on where I go I'll try to get ahold of you guys the GMRS you posted earlier and meet up
