Day trip into the desert? Saturday 10/22

Post by Kevin on Thu Oct 20, 2016 1:06 am

Much depends on whether the weather lets me finish my roof tomorrow, but I'm thinking about hitting the desert Saturday and thought I'd throw open the invite.  I'm headed for the area NW of Delta and the old mines in the Drum Range - there's some cool stuff Josh and I found at the Black Boy that I'd like to see without snow on it, and there's more further south if the roads are passable.  Rockhounding at Topaz Mountain and maybe a little shooting are also on the agenda if there's time.

You kitchen-remodelers get out of your houses and come play with me.

Do you have an estimated departure and return times?

You know me, I like to get rolling early. Especially in the winter, when we lose daylight early. How would you feel about meeting at the I80 Stansbury exit at 0830?

The flu is going around, you know.

I thought you said you were getting moved back to a normal weekend schedule?

Let me double check things, but I'm pretty sure I'm in. Might bring a gun or two if I can get them sighted in somewhat decently.

The chance of me ever having A weekend day off, let alone they whole weekend on a regular basis is slim to none while in the canyons

New plan! Those guys wanna do the Dugway range, and we've been there done that so lets go back to the original plan.

Ron's in Draper so a Tooele meetup would be out of his way. Let's meet at the Sinclair in Eureka at 0900. From there lets blast south on 6 and hit dirt at the Weiss Rd at Jericho. We'll go to Topaz Mtn first, spend some time looking for pretty shinies, then the mines in the Drum mountains I wanna look at are just a bit south. If we have any extra time we'll work north into the Spor mountains where there's more mines and we might meet that other crew coming south. Or we might not. At some point we'll stop for lunch and maybe get the rifles out and make some loud noises for a bit.

CB channel 22 like usual.

Shoot! The wife and I were thinking of coming out there. Not to see the bison, but to see the stupid people... waaay more fun!
