I need opinions too!

Post by dutchman on Mon Apr 25, 2016 7:07 pm

With the possibility of Het Beest moving on to a new home, I'm looking at options to replace it. This will probably just be a thread of me rambling, but I welcome the groups opinions.

Requirements:
-IFS or 3-Link front suspension
-4 doors

Would be nice:
-Auto trans
-Rear locker
-Mechanical T-case
-Lift or suspension work already done

I think this lands me back in a 3rd gen 4runner, a Jeep XJ, or, dare I say it, a Land Rover Disco . I'd love to get into a 4th gen 4runner or a 1st gen Tundra b/c of the V8 options, but those will be out of my price range unless I decide to be patient. The Tacoma tax is a bit too much for me, so those are off the list unless a crazy good deal pops up. I can take my Ford out on most our outings and will be willing to catch a ride for the tougher, tighter sections so maybe I'll simplify my life and not get another rig for a bit. I don't know...

Here's a 3rd gen that needs a bit of work http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/2860789?ad_cid=5

Anyone familiar with replacing shift solenoids in the trans?

What is the budget?

Mostly so I can keep my eye out

I haven't looked recently on prices, but would an FJ cruiser work? or do you need 4 real doors

Budget: Probably 5k and under if I do something quickly. I think I'd be up around 5-10k if I wait for awhile. I wouldn't mind finding something cheap that needs a little bit of work to get in good shape. That's why I posted the link above and asked about the fix.

FJs look to be out of my budget for the most part, at least with a quick look on KSL.

Looks fairly straight forward

He does have a potty mouth in case you are watching at work or around kids

There's a couple of nice 80 series on KSL, they're expensive.

I may be in the market when/if you decide to sell your taco Josh.

I'm going to try and link up with Derek on RME and sit in his new Taco since no one has one on the lot. If I can get some more pennies saved I may pull the trigger on one of those.

Interested to see his feelings on the new truck after his Mexico trip

Like I said. Swap me for mine since I don't need a running truck currently and then Beest stays in the club. I like this plan

Beest, is still in the club... well somewhat. He'll be signing up when crawls out from under Beest to use a computer. Btw, Brady do you happen to have the bolts to hold the transmission shifter on?

I'll double check the garage. There was a bag of bolts covered in gear oil that should have most of the loose bolts. Those also may be in the cab.
