Re: Getting high in Colorado.
Just got back from a couple days in Ouray - what an incredible area. We didn't even come close to scratching the surface of what's to see and do, next time I head that way it'll be for a week. At least.
Atlas Mill in Yankee Boy Basin:
Downhill from near the top of Yankee Boy Basin:
On the Imogene Pass trail:
Overlooking the Revenue Mine and townsite of Sneffels from the Imogene Pass trail:
Waterfall at what topo maps call the Yellow Rose mine.
Shack at Upper Camp Bird:
Hidden Treasure:
Imogene Pass from Upper Camp Bird:
Second highest pass with a road in the US:
Various photos from the site of Tomboy on the Telluride side of Imogene Pass. This site is absolutely huge, I could spend days just here and I think in future I will:
Downhill of Tomboy:
Switchbacks of Black Bear Pass (which is the first highest pass with a road in the US, on my list for the next trip):
Looking up Ophir Pass:
Top of Ophir Pass:
Social Tunnel on Ophir Pass:

Re: Getting high in Colorado.
Awesome photos Kevin! Those old mining ruins probably made you all giddy. I'd like to make a trip out there.

Like a school girl.
Re: Getting high in Colorado.
Pretty sweet that you were able to take the 4runner all the way up to 13,114 FT. You just bagged a 13+ peak with the 4runner. Not too many places you can do that (at least that I know of).
Sweet photos.

Black Bear Pass is higher, I'm gonna get that one next time ! I think that's the highest place you can drive a vehicle in the US.

Two total, one day on the trail and one day doing tourist shit. I'll definitely have more days budgeted next time.
Re: Getting high in Colorado.
Would the road be drivable in your truck?? I think I will have a truck before I have another wheeler. I would love to go out there.

Now that I've been on it, I'm pretty sure you could drive Imogene in a truck like mine. You'd want good tires, there's a little bit of crawling near the top and I don't think street tires would cut it. I don't think I'd try it in a long bed though.
Find me an OBS four door F250 with the 7.3 and I'll sell you my truck. I'll throw in lifetime ball joint service.

Re: Getting high in Colorado.
Point of order - Black Bear Pass is not the highest pass in Colorado, and Imogene is not second highest.
