End of TRD SC

Post by MacKay on Wed Jun 17, 2015 12:00 pm

I awoke to some bad news this morning. Here is a newsletter from LC Engineering:

http://www.lcengineering.com/LCNewsletter/2015/JUNE/byebye_TRDSC.html

TL:DR version: Toyota has decided to discontinue their TRD edition superchargers on basically every model.

So if you are like me and have always wanted to bolt on some extra power, but have procrastinated buying a supercharger for your 3.4 Liter or other motor, that ship might have sailed. There were all over ebay and available through stealerships and directly online through Toyota. As far as bolt-on power goes, they were reasonably affordable since you didn't have to rebuild any internals, and they were designed by the Toyota specific for their motors. They were basically plug and play (assuming your motor was '98 or newer I believe (although there might have been an option for the '96 and '97's??)) The good news is LC Engineering is apparently in discussions with Toyota to take over the production of the SC's from their manufacturer. So they may not totally disappear; they may just become more expensive.

So long story short, I want more power. Had planned on buying one directly from Toyota, but am going to have to make other plans.

I wish I had the money to buy one right now and sit on it for a couple years. Very Happy

I would also like to click checkout... My brother found a dealership in Texas that said each dealership was given a handful (5?) of superchargers before they cut them off. This dealership had one or two left and only charged him $2700, so he pulled the trigger. It hasn't shown up yet, so we'll see. It might be worth calling different Toyota dealerships to find if there are any more out there at a lower price...

No, Josh, you already had a chance for an SC'd Taco and you blew it.  No supercharger for you.

No one tried harder than me to purchase that Tacoma

Also i'm not entirely sure I want to open the can of worms bolting a SC on a 200k motor cause

You know what, I'll take that bullet for you. You buy the SC and I'll put it on the Wiferunner.  If it works then you can buy another for your truck.

That's what kind of friend I am.

LCE says they're going to have superchargers back in stock.  Apparently the company that was building them for TRD bought the rights and are going back into production.
