Nice pics. I ended up leaning first thing Saturday morning on a hunch. Spent the afternoon cleaning up throw up. I will post what pics I got at work tonight.

Re: 2nd Quarter Club Run - Gold Hill
I don't want pics of the throwup.
Bread picked up engine trouble as we crossed the desert, had to get jumped every time he needed to start the truck. We decided to get him back to pavement and left Gold Hill around 1530. Before that we drove through the Dugway mountains and saw lots of cool stuff (there's more), checked out the district at Fish Springs and didn't see much, and tasted just the start of Gold Hill. I'll try and post a real report later tonight.

Looks like maybe there needs to be another adventure in that direction some time in the future for those of us that were deprived of the fun (but not the sick) Awesome pics, guys! Living vicariously thru you isn't as fun, but it's still great to see some of our state that I haven't seen before.

Re: 2nd Quarter Club Run - Gold Hill
Josh, Tyson, and I all broke free early Thursday, so we met at Little Moab and headed west, exploring Broad Canyon and Black Rock Canyon. Both have a history of mining, but we didn't find much more than old roads and blocked off shafts. It looked to me like a great area for some snow wheeling this winter though! From there we jammed down the old railroad grade, crossed highway 36, and found camp at the base of Harker Canyon in the Sheeprock Mountains, noshed some tacos, and went to bed.
We got a late start in the morning, but eventually got rolling. Heading up Harker Canyon first, we didn't find much more exiting than the boarded up shafts the day before, but we did find an adit big enough to warrant a set of rails down to the mill site below it. Leaving Harker and heading up North Brush Oak Creek, we had a little better luck, finding a couple fallen-in cabins and a half-intact mill site. We saw what had to be an intact headframe or tram tower farther up the canyon, but were running out of time so we saved that for later. We bounced out Vernon to top off the tanks, where Josh left us to go back to the real world, then we jammed out to camp at the Simpson Springs campground. Nicole and Brassy and Bread found us there just an hour or so later, and we enjoyed a campfire but the old people went to bed early and I don't know what shenanigans Brassy and Bread got up to after that.
Morning came with a windstorm and a little rain. Tyson decided to take his broken rear window and his sick little boy home, so after striking camp quick we jammed on out the PET. First stop was the Dugway mountains - we left the PET at the feet of the mountains and went north, winding our way into Bullion Canyon. Checking out the Rainbow Mine area first, all we found was a cabin with the roof fallen in. Up the hill we could see the mine itself, but I missed the turn towards it and we ended up travelling on. Next stop was the Four Metals Mine, with several fallen-in buildings, a couple open shafts and adits, and an intact headframe at the top. After checking that out we wended our way west and south back to the PET, passing several more mine sites that we didn't have time to explore (and that's just one of several canyons there).
Back on the PET, we passed Fish Springs for another stop at a mine-dense area in the north Fish Springs Range. We didn't see much, the area appeared to be being actively worked and we didn't want to trespass. I've done a little research since then and I think maybe there's nothing active going on there after all, so one of these days I'm going to go back.
From there, we rolled through Callao (a remarkably cool little village in the middle of nowhere) and on to Gold Hill. We stopped at a set of mines at the base of Gold Hill itself and spent an hour or so hiking around, checking out the open adits and ruins of mining buildings. We had several hours left to check out more sites but Bread's truck decided it was time to not start, so after we messed with his battery a little and decided he had a really bad parasitic drain we reached a group consensus to escort him back to pavement before his truck stranded him.

So it seems we were looking at the Army Airfield at the Dugway Proving Grounds from our campsite at Simpson Spings.

Re: 2nd Quarter Club Run - Gold Hill
I do have some pictures to post just haven't had time.
I was telling my neighbor about our trip and she got super excited and started telling me about her dads mine claim out in the Dugway Mountains. Turns out it is called the Rainbow Mine!!! I showed her the pictures of the cabin and she told me her Grandpa and dad built it. I will try to get more info from her, but I really don't like to talk to her very much.....
