Don't Flog Me... Empty Don't Flog Me...

But I'm thinking of putting my runner up for sale to get something a little more street friendly. I am missing out on a lot of rides that are (as Kevin puts it) "a->b". It does great in Moab and other hard-core places, but I flat tow it there. I would love to do things such as Pole Line Pass trip through Midway (more expedition style), but no way I'm driving that thing home on the freeway. I would never leave my Toyota roots and am interested in this: 1998 Land Cruiser Not a 4Runner, but I would be wheelin' in style Laughing

Would I still be part of the club? Very Happy

Definitely still part of the club. But why not keep the 4Runner as a trail rig and have a dd/exploration rig too?

Better yet, get a late model 4Runner with a v8 and use it to tow the Beast. Smile

We'd have to have an executives meeting to determine your status...

I like the ability to drive my truck to and from whatever trails we decide to run. It'd be nice to have one built for the hard-core trails, but I just don't need that as most of our runs my truck can do now. I do like that land cruiser, is the mileage on it considered high? Would the width bother you? How does is compare to the width of your runner?

Here's how the numbers compare:

100 Series Land Cruiser
Wheelbase 112.2"
Length 192.5"
Width 76.4"
Height 72.8"
Curb weight 5,115 lb.

First Gen 4Runner
Wheelbase 103.0"
Length 174.6"
Width 66.5"
Height 66.1"
Curb weight 3,700 lb.

Mileage is high but a lot of maintenance has been done recently (and supposedly they are highway miles). With my family of 6, I would love to have the 7 seater Land Cruiser - the 5 seater 4Runner is a little tight Smile

My plan is to have an dd/expo rig and a "hard-core" crawler. Not sure I want to use the 4Runner as the later, yet, but definitely a possibility.

The 10" of extra width might make some trails a little more interesting.

Can I have the roll bar from your 1st gen if you decide you don't need it?!
(Kevin, you can give yours if you want)

I've never understood that mod. It's barely functional in a 1gen, in a 3gen all it does it take up space! Why not buy some steel and bring it over and we'll slap you together a real cargo system?

I forgot you've got a welder. I think I have access to a tube bender at work so maybe I'll draw something up and we'll tack it together.
