Fluid for transfer case Empty Fluid for transfer case

I've developed a pretty severe leak from the front seal on my transfer case. In prepping to replace it I was doing a little research and am finding different sources some saying to use gear oil and some saying ATF. What fluid should I run??

I did put a new/used case in last fall and I do remember topping it off with ATF which it already had in it. I just want to use the right oil if I have to replace it any how.

You need this, yo. 75w90.

I wonder if the ATF is why it's leaking.  You might wanna reseal the whole case, and check the bearings while you're at it.

I'm with Kevin on this one. I used 75w90 gear oil when I did the t-case swap on my 3rd gen.
