Run on Sat. 10/13

Post by dutchman on Mon Oct 08, 2012 7:56 am

So while Kevin's off playing around in Moab this weekend, is anyone else interested in making a run on Saturday (10/13)?

My sis has a friend who wants to go, but doesn't want to do Snakes or Mineral Basin so I was thinking we could go up Forest Lake. Open to other ideas as well.

If Sis's friend is averse to body damage and such, there's always Inspiration Point or the dirt roads above the B. Or try this - Murdoch Basin off Mirror Lake Highway. It's a very rough road with lots of baby heads and slow going, but my stock '00 Explorer did it with just a couple bangs on the undercarriage, so it'd be a great taste of offroading for a noob that still likes their paint job.

Plus it was just gorgeous up there. Probably even better this time of year.

I don't think he's an off-roading noob. From what I understand he's run Mineral and Snakes a lot and wants to run something different.

Well, it's not a "run" as such, but you guys could pack a bbq and a boombox and go screw around at Little Moab.

I'm interested in a run but I have to take the nice 4Runner so I'm going to be a baby and stay away from possible body damage.
Man, I can't wait to get old red going.

Never been. Could be a possibility

If I remember correctly, you were one of the guys that ran the first part of Forest Lake with me and some other guy in a black 3rd gen. That's the trickiest part, shouldn't get any body damage unless you're looking for it. Kevin, correct me if I'm miss remembering.

Nope, you're right. I kinda think you'd have to be trying to get body damage on Forest Lake. That first couple of rock gardens are as hard as it gets, and they're cake if you pick the easy lines.

Just remember that the bypasses to the right are technically off-trail. I found that out about a month ago.

I remember you saying something about that when we were on Snakes a few weeks ago.

Yep, that was me. I thought we turned around because we thought it got a whole lot worse. I've got to check if I can take leave this weekend and I'll let you know.

You're wife always has something going on for you and her. BYU's going to get beat by Oregon St. so going wheeling is a better idea!

It's going to be a shellacqing.

I'm sure they will. There QB is inconsistent at best. But I will there anyways. That's just how I roll!

Plans changed, the run will now be out at 5 mile pass. My sister's friend decided he wants to run Snakes. Anyone's welcome to come, we should be at the "parking lot" around 11:00 am.

The Snakes are a different animal when the rocks are slippery.

Definitely made everything more challenging. Especially on the way back down with my tires packed w/ mud. The other vehicle with me was a Rubicon, locked on 35s and we weren't able to get him up the Radiator Rapids. I was reminded a time or two that my t-case is lame and needs to be replaced. Running in the snow this winter would be a good challenge!
