My deer hunt opens on the 24th. I don't know yet exactly what the plans are, but I'm assuming we'll be chasing tail from opening day through the weekend.

As much as I want to do this, I think my Saturdays are pretty much wiped through October. I spent way to much money getting Aiden signed up and ready for football for me not to have him at every game!! What sucks is literally 2 weeks after football is over wrestling begins. I know this will come as a shock to you guys but my priorities are a little off!!

I won't preach a sermon here, but make sure you don't burn your kids out too early on sports. I played 3 different sports growing up and by the time I was in High School, I was burned out. I was playing 4 baseball games a weekend and then 2 to 3 basketball games a week. It sucked.

I let Kallin play baseball this Spring and he'll be playing soccer this Fall. However, I will never let those activities trump our time together in the woods. What I learned growing up with my Dad and my buddies, in the woods, has been far more beneficial than what all my trophies taught me.

^ Word. Ian plays soccer and loves it, but he knows I won't make every game, and when I give him the choice between soccer or fishing/hiking/mountainbiking he almost always chooses to come play with me instead. And that's exactly how I like it - sports is good for him as long as he's doing it because he wants to, and not because I want him to or because we need to keep up with the neighbors or something.

I agree. I'm not making Aiden play, but if he is going to play I want him to be the best he can. He chose to play and maybe I'm wrong here but my philosophy is that if you play choose to play a team sport you give your commitment to that team. If you don't go to a game your letting your team down. And if Aiden is going to a game I will be there too. Thats one thing I learned from my dad. He was always there to support me. I won't miss one of my kids events if I have a choice. We didn't spend a lot of time in the woods growing up, partly because of the farm but we did a lot of other things together. I played a lot of sports growing up and yes I burned out of a couple. But I had fun while it lasted. I will get the boys out but right now Aiden had a commitment to his team.

I'm setting up a mini-QTD in conjunction with the service project. Brad, I'm calling you out - hook a brother up with a first aid-ish class. Thirty minutes is all I need, you can have more if you want.

Whatever. You'll suck less if you bring me venison.
