Nov 16th

Post by offroad_medic on Mon Oct 28, 2013 6:30 am

So I have some free time on November 16th and would like to get out on a trail somewhere. I was thinking maybe snakes (especially if there is snow) or somewhere else relatively close to the valley. I'm open to just random exploring or if there are any scenic radio towers or little Moab or what have you. I haven't been up north at all so anything in bountiful or Farmington canyon wherever. Just throwing the idea and time out there. Who's in and where should we go?

I like that date, I should be able to make a run then.

Tell my boss I can't work that Saturday?  That's all that's stopping me from joining this run.

I'm pretty sure it's the rear diff at this point.  I took it out to a back road this morning and popped it into tcase neutral doing 60 and it was still humming as I decelerated, so I'm fairly certain that rules out the transmission.  I'm going to hold off on taking it to Carl for a little bit, I haven't given up on finding a way to separate Ty from his elocker yet. Very Happy

I work midnight to 8 that Saturday and Sunday.

You guys plan your trip.  If I can make it, I will.

Would anybody be interested in a drive up mirror lake highway to find some snow if it all doesn't melt?

I'll have to check with the boss-lady, but I should be available. What kind of run is Mirror Lake? That's up by Kamas, right?
I'm up for anything up north as well.

I'm down. Since I found how roomy the 4Runner is I'll just sleep in it if you do your normal stupid early trail runs Very Happy

As far as I know there aren't any real offroad trails in the area but therefore fully would still be some good snow on the road unless it all melts this week from being warm. It's more of just a scenic drive than anything.

Also has anybody driven the loop from Farmington canyon to bountiful over skyline drive? My wife and I were looking at that just for fun since we'll be up in that area now. I'm assuming it's gates off by now though....

There's a tremendous amount of dirt up Mirror Lake Highway to explore.  Murdoch Basin road is a rough-but-not-technical trip, but I don't know how far up you'll get with snow on it.  Soapstone Basin is lower elevation and is supposed to be vaguely 4wdish, but I haven't been in there yet.

Or just find some open dirt and drive.  Snow makes any road a four wheel drive road.

Skyline above Bountiful is gated off.

I have skied up soapstone a ton and can't imagine anything technical at all up there but it's a gorgeous area

So I vote for a run up in the uintahs were we just go up and try to find wherever we can still access and play around up there for the day. I'm up for any suggestions really though. What do you guys think/want to do?

I don't know what's up there and I'm still not sure if I can make it, so I won't be voting.

I was thinking up in the uintahs but it can be kind of a far drive. I'm honestly done for going anywhere. Especially if more people can come if we stay closer

If I can get someone to watch my daughter I'd be in. Don't really want to fight her with 1 1/2 arms.
