Has anyone ever heard of this? I had thought about it a few times and was just thinking about it again. Since a CV maxes out around 30 degrees of deflection, you could have a CV at the differential, a CV at the wheel, and then an axle connecting the two joints.

I can't draw a picture now, but if you have a CV at the diff and one at the wheel at full deflection it doesn't help, since they are just parallel to each other so wouldn't contact, so the third shaft connects them. So it's like: CV joint at wheel - shaft - CV joint (so this is one normal CV axle) - shaft - CV joint (start of second CV axle) - shaft - CV joint at differential.

You would need some kind of setup to keep the CVs aligned and not flop around, which could be done fairly simply I would think. You would probably need some kind of arm that holds shafts 1 and 2, and then another on shafts 2 and 3 that has roller bearings constraining the shafts. Since the CVs wouldn't be binding anywhere, the arms wouldn't need to be insanely strong either...

ANYWAYS, has anyone ever heard of doing this or some other way you can extend the angle of a CV/U-joint axle/driveshaft?
