Argh!
So the secret's out, I'm on the hunt for a 3rd gen. Problem is, EVERYONE thinks theirs is the exception to the blue book price. So, apparently Utah, as a whole, goes by NADA values. Problem is, that these values are meant for dealers, which is why they use Clean RETAIL and trade-in values. For example, this gem caught my eye. According to him, it "books" for $8300. WHAT? Yeah, NADA, "clean retail" is about that but isn't that what I would expect to pay at a dealership? KBB and Edmunds have it booking right around $5300. The guy is 3g's over....absolutely ridiculous. Is this common with all cars in Utah or just with 4Runners? Every single one I'm currently looking at is priced AT LEAST $2,000 over KBB or Edmunds. It is my understanding that for private parties, these are the two sources of truth. Why are all Utah cars priced at NADA retail????
I hate car shopping...

Sellers are retards, this is a rule.
Did you see the 3rd gen bschroeder is selling on RME? He's a lot lower than that, and has had it listed for a while...

Yes, I've been watching it - again, it books for $2800 and he's stuck at $3600. Someone already offered him 3k and he didn't take it. I had offered hime $3200 awhile back and he didn't take it. Guess he doesn't really want to sell it.

Especially when it comes to 4runners and Tacomas. I think I got lucky finding my 4runner at some tiny dealer in Springville a few years ago. It was reasonably priced.
Have you told the guy on KSL what the KBB and Edmunds values are? Him going with the clean, dealer NADA value is nuts.

Re: Argh!
Utah does typically refer to the NADA values, but there definitely needs to be consideration. For condition. Unless something is in pristine condition it doesn't qualify for NADA dealer use. The dealer I got my 3rd gen from pretty good to work with on price and I talked them down $1250. They buy most of their cars out of AZ that have never seen winter salt/sand if you would want to check them out.

Re: Argh!
My guess is that it's a 2nd gen for that price. If you wouldn't mind getting more details though, that would be great!

Re: Argh!
You don't want it, Andrew. I poked around it a bit the other day - it's an SASd 1990 on at least a 5 inch lift, duals, etc. You've already got one of those.
Re: Argh!
This one is way over book, but he's got several thou in goodies on it too?

Re: Argh!
I saw a stock 3rd gen at a dealer in Orem today with a window sticker of $4700. I'm not sure on details but if you're interested I could try to take a look on Thursday.

Re: Argh!
Thanks guys, but I'm losing hope. Here's another one: http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/460809. KBB and Edmunds both have it priced around $3600 (it is almost 17 years old). When I asked him why he felt it was worth $5000 over book and he said because of all the maintenance he has done and the "super" low miles (huh? 138,000?????).
I'm sorry to say, but I think I'm going to look at Grand Cherokees (WJ) now. They are EASILY 4-5k cheaper with less miles. They already have solid axles and I can run a 4" lift with 33's for less than a grand. My brother-in-law loves his. Slight front-end damage from a wreck but nothing serious. ONly 85k miles and he picked it up for $3500. These Toyota guys are nuts! :lol!:

Yeah man 4runner/Tacoma prices are crazy, glad I got mine when I did.
A jeep though...? If you get a jeep, please tell me you'll keep the 1st Gen.

It's going to be hard to get rid of the 1st gen. I doubt I will be able to sell it for a reasonable price especially since a little work will be required to get it street legal. Plus, it's BAD ASS on the rocks!!!!
